Got myself a ZTZ99a from Lewis @ Panzer Command. Took it for a quick test drive on the lawn.

All works apart from the rear lights which have been wired up wrong. And one of the drive sprockets feels loose, on closer inspection the drive bush has come out of the gearbox wall causing the extra play.

So first job open it up to resolve the problems.

First up that gearbox bush, for some reason the bush wont push back into place with it all in the tank. But plan to change motors soon so will have it out in bits then so will fix then.

Second tail lights.

Thought about simply pulling white sockets out and turning round but was stuck solid so ended up resoldered the wires. And now working

As this tank came as BB version I want to convert to IR. So got myself latest version heavy tank Mako board and anti tank recoil circuit ATRC. This version ATRC has JABB (Just A Bit Back) so gives you slight recoil when firing but totally elimiantes the tank spasm and death roll when IR battling

For now i've just plugged it all in together to make sure it works, as still need to figure out where to mount IR bits and whether to go fit LED or HV flash unit.

Great start Ian, reading your KV 1 post yesterday inspired me to start mine and I am going to fit the I/R emitter in the barrel so it will also then act as a I/R tube would mounted in the manlet.
Cheers Ken

Cheers Ken,

I need to figure out where to put the IR emitter as no obvious place in the turret (doesn't even have the red LED BB warning!). I did think in the barrel but as it is so long anything above from it's lowest postion will have it firing directly into the sky.

Theres a anti aircraft machine gun to go on top so might attached to that.

Started adding IR bits.

Not quite certain what this is on the tank turret, but thought a good place to put the hit indicator which comes with the latest Mako board. Simply drilled out and LED put in.

Next up the HL wiring harness for the IR receiver, glued on the inside of the turret with a few holes drilled for pins to fit through.

That's as far as I got today.

Job for next time is to mount the IR emitter.

Got round to finishing installing the IR bits.

First up mount the IR emitter in a tube simply made from a bit of rolled up drinks tin, to give a narrow shooting beam.

All installed. Receiver, hit indicator, IR emitter.

And a shot of the modern tank next to a tank icon.

Not much done today.

Added a 10A fuse in the positive wire before the on/off switch and changed battery connector to a deans type.

And that's it, told you not much :haha:

Tonight I changed my motors to some Graupner speed 400 6v.

Here's a short video showing the improvement in speed and check out how well it handles on the uncut grass.
