Tamiya King Tiger Gear reduction. Before and after

Got hold of some Maxx gear boxes some day's ago, and even though I did a poor job of grinding down the axel ( made the pinion wobble) I installed it and made little video for you guy's. With the stock pinion on the motor, and 10 tooth on the gearbox it was a tad to slow( depends on waht you're after) but it was fun to drive arround in the back yard.

looks like your kt is running more to scale speed now :thumbup: i used a old heng long motor in the maxx unit + flat file + oil to turn down the shaft, it took a while to do but turned out ok.

I did the blunder of not getting the axel even all the way. I manged to get the tip of the axel just a hair thinner than the inner part, so the pinion has a tiny play, and when thighting down the screw it will lift the front of the pinion ever so slightly, making the gap just a little to much to my liking. So when I drive I don't make any power turns on grass ore sand/dirt ( on pave yes), but large forward moving turns on grass.

Thank you , Sir for the videos and explanations. Boy, these King Tigers are certainly something to see on the move. After finishing making a collar for the shoulder screw on one pesky Idler, I ran my lower hull around the dining room to check track tension and alignment. It ran great, thankfully. The noise of the gears and squeaking metal tracks had our two Greyhounds sitting up with WTH looks on their muzzles. They know about my RC tanks and most times just flip an ear when one goes by but this KT, I could feel the vibration in the tile when it clanked past. Goosebumps! :o)

You can't beat running on reduction gearboxes,my Tiger has 3:1's fitted and has much better
handling and much more enjoyable general driveability.

Sure do Miggers, I love it, Watching it crawling along. And now I don't have to listen to the tamiya idle sound as I move forward, since if you want to go slow on stock gearbox that's how it sounds.
