Am I doing something wrong?

Just got my new Heng Long KV-1. I've seen in video how they have sound, have gun recoil, etc. Mine does none of that. I am starting to think that I don't have sound on mine. Am I missing the volume control? Also, the black buttons on the bottom of the controller don't do anything, except that one puts the tank into a demo mode. Did I get ripped off?

I'm sorry but if your tank has got the demonstration modes then I think you have the non smoke/sound version!!!

  • Hi GDSFsoldier
Check underneath the tank , there should be a black ON/OFF switch , white rotary volume control dial , a red on/off switch for the smoker ( if fitted ) - and a black switch marked A , B , C , or a crystal , which should be the same as on the transmitter .
  • As far as I know ALL versions have a 'recoil' , actually just a backward jerk of the tracks with a firing noise , triggered by the 'K' button on the TX .
( Only the I.R. version has the gun recoil .)

Thanks for all of your help. I suppose that I am going to have to send it back.

You have the non smoke and sound (old) version of the tank the channels are just the ABC switch instead of changeable crystals, so if it was supposed to be a smoke and sound you have been sent the wrong one - possibly ripped off if it was advertised as smoke and sound - send it back.

I think all S&S models should come in white boxes and the older non S&S came in black boxes.

Then you have the choice of airsoft or IR version. The airsoft fires 6mm BB pellets. The IR (infrared) version you loose the airsoft but get cannon recoil (both version recoil via track movement as well) plus the IR bits which will only work against other HL tanks.

Hope you get your money back ok. Remember to mention sales of goods act to them if they get resistant.

Ian.

Well, guys. I had no clue that there was a non smoke and sound version. I assumed it was like the others because they wanted as much for it as S&S. The seller replied to me and stated that the ad said that it was non upgraded. I mean, to me that meant no special paint or openable boxes, etc. I think it is obvious that he will fight me. So my question is this: can I just upgrade the tank myself? If so, what will be the cost? I greatly appreciate all of your help.

Where / how did you buy it ? If you paid cash you might have problems , but if you ordered it online or by phone you will be covered by distance selling regulations ( as you obviously cannot inspect the goods first hand ) - you have the right to return it , with a full refund including postage ( unless agreed at point of sale ) - he cannot charge a 'restocking' fee either , that is illegal .

Just realised your from USA so some of the mentioned laws might not apply but i'm sure you'll have simular to us. Would of thought you'll have protection from credit card purchases as a minimum.

If you want to upgrade to S&S yes that is possible I did it with mine, basically it is a change of electronics and controller. Some places (http://rctankwars.com/Products.asp right at bottom of the page) sell conversion kits, or altenatives buy a second hand tank with rx18 or damaged one off ebay and use the bits form that.

But to be honest I think the seller should of made it obvious it wasn't a smoke and sound version.

*The S.O.G. act is U.K. / european , Distance selling regulations are U.S. / international ( although some countries ignore it )
