new member with current build situation---tamiya tiger one working on the turret----tamiya leopard gearbox closed---tamiya pziv not started---"goodies" expected from mr kin of tz by courier tomorrow---and now --- if other members were considering buying the torro king tiger with the box!!! or alternatively the tamiya king tiger full option kit to build what decision would they make and why please---best wishes---hue city

Hi there and welcome to the forum ! If I had the cash to splash I would go for a tamiya every time!! But the fact is its always going to be at least a £600 pound splash to achieve !! And in today's hard up money the henglong and other makes are the best way to get into the hobby without breaking the bank! . Like everything it always comes down to the money! We all know tamiya are the best but you can get other makes to be as good in time and buy gradually spending the cash on hop ups and in turn not breaking the bank!!

I agree with you Tank man up to a point. Yes Hl is the cheapest way to get in to the hobbie. But i think its a fallacy to say a Hl with upgrades to a standard of a tamyia or others will be cheaper.With all the parts replaced ,like sound system,hull,gearboxs etc to name but a few. Then the mods ,you will be hitting that Tamyia price very quickly. Yes you can spread the cash need to do this over time. But you will be spending as much if not more than the tamyia cost in the 1st place.
So if you have enough cash to buy the other makes. Look into them, as the Hl will need mods to its body, and soaking up the cash over time than you may well think for.

I would also go the HL way, but thats because I have. The Tamiya kits are very expensive, but do you get any metal parts with them? Are the tracks/gears metal. I haven't really looked that much into them because I found HL to be much cheaper and you can buy more of them ;]

Am not going to pick holes in your post. But i will say this..get a basic Hl..mod the body..upgrade to a set of good gearboxs..good sound system..a metal hull..the list goes on. add that to the price you paid for your Hl. Then tell me how much your Hl has now cost you to build to a standard of a kit tamyia.
Oh and the gearboxs in a tamyia are very quiet.unlike most that sound like tin cans grinding away.

if every member on here had the money to buy tamiya' then they would all buy tamiya because they are great' but they don't!, so HL OR WSN are a better option and you can upgrade as your money allows, a few of our club members have tamiya kits and i can't think of one of them who has not had to upgrade their full option tank in some manner or tinker with it just as much as the guys with HL or WSN.

The differences between Tamiya and Heng long are the Tamiya has a far better sound than the Hl you also get a metal hull, suspension and metal wheels as standard you don,t get meatal tracks but you get metal sprockets and idlers as well as track tensioners. They come up on ebay all the time and sell for around the £300 mark with radio gear more than half what they cost new.

I agree with you on that one you can Buy a good secondhand tamiya tank and it will be worth every penny! You can still upgrade it and it will be a lot Easyer to do as the hull is correct and the hatches are opened already. As for my first answer on here what I Ment is tamiya are the best but if you don't want to save up and wait till you can afford one you could buy a heng long and upgrade it over a year and spread out your spending. But it will cost you more in the long run I know as I've been down that road and my henglong stands me at about £800 pounds!!! So realy buying a second hand tamiya will prove to be a heck of a lot cheaper in the end!

i started with a heng long panzer 4 mate kept buying anything i liked soon had lots of plastic and problems so went down the mod path learnt things off this site many many great tankers here now have tamiya but would still buy hl keep up the good work remember theres a tank commander in us all just up to you what make you sit in .
