can any tell me the difference betwwen the two? from an earlier thread i got that the turrets were the same it was the running gear that differed. i know bovi has both but the only really good detail pics are of a henschel( hope i'm spelling that right) turreted one and i'd hate to base my KT on a tank that it wasn't. anyone got pics or links to pics so i can see the difference. cheers
jeff. ps in case i forget, Happy christmas to everyone

The turrets were the main difference - Porche built examples had the rounded front armour , which was a 'shot trap' . The Henschel turret had a plain flat plate .

just had a furtle on google and saw that, wasnt sure what people meant by a shot trap, but i do now. wonder if there is any way of converting, god only just got the tank and i want to modify it. lol well if god hadnt meant us to modify he wouldn't have invented hacksaws.

Don't think you'll be able to "modify" the turret from one to another, they're a different shape, the so called porsche turret has a bulge in the left hand side to accomodate the comanders cupola, yet another reason the "henschel" turret was chosen as it was easier to build. Trumpeter do a static version of the KT with BOTH turrets in one kit as they are that different. I have a "porsche" turreted static version as I think ( personally) its the better looking of the two and its a little more exclusive with I think only 50 examples issued to units.

You could buy the tamiya turret I have the bottom base and the gun barrel and some parts for the turret you would have to buy the turret top and you should be able to mod it then! I've got a Tamiya king tiger I got off eBay a few months ago and that's the Porsche version. The upper hull is different on mine as well if you look at my posted the one called my tiger tank there's some pics of it on the bottom page! I'll bring it to the meet with the turret parts if you make it!

mainly trying to find either a single tank to model or ( even though it wont be) a generic tank to do, ive seen the one in bovi and the detail pics are great, just dont know how they will relate to a porsche turret. and i dont like zimmerit.

Here is a older picture of the two Tamiya versions,I and Alb did a photo research project to collect all the King Tiger Photo's we could find, this collection continues to grow and is on SKYDRIVE for viewing and hopefully will soon be available for everyone to share.

The main differences I think have been pointed out,but in this photo the Henschel Turret with the Two piece gun assembly is on the Left,on the right the Porsche Turret version with the one piece barrel which is noticeably longer. My Porsche version is without fenders yet the kit and the original was equipped with fenders.

This post about the welding Technic has excellent factory turret pictures on page 61-65 of the link. Might be worth looking over?
