*** CAMERA Barrel FLASH UPDATE ***

Post by Herr Fritz »

Hello Fellow Commanders and Crewmen.

Good news! This technique can work for us, Cheap as dirt, fits easily inside most turrets, cost almost nothing, runs off 1.5 to 3 volts and using connectors for quick disconnect building several units for quick replacement ahead of time ( just in case ) can keep you in action.

Not sure as my BB shot system was history a long time ago it ( might work )
with the factory Air Soft - though the voltage needed for the Air Soft unit and the the relay
needed to trigger the flash system may not be enough.

After messing around with a few different types I have found for better, longer lasting, faster firing and more reliable FLASH comes from the 'non disposable' cameras like 35mm or Digi but so far I have found the circuit boards from the 35mm units to be smaller and easier to work with. I have found these at Goodwill and other Thrift shops in the 1.00 to 5.00 ranges. FREE if you want to hit a Drug Store that developes film....the guy behind the counter gave me about 12 free spent cameras...so if anyone needs one or two to mess with I send them to ya.

** NOTE ** All Zenon Flash tubes use 3 wires two at each end being your + and - from the Capacitor and the third is the higher voltage 'trigger' lead that has something to do with the final initialization of the tubes gases.

The better systems have that 3rd wire heated / welded ( in sorts ) right on the glass. The other tubes can be used but a thin metallic / foil like tape about 3/16th wide would have to be wrapped around one end of the tube after being soldered to that that 3rd 'trigger' lead or a smaller version of a thin metal shield about 3/16th wide and 2/16th" from the tube I do not believe that it needs to be completely around the tube....just cupped 1/2 way at that 2/16th distance.

HIGH VOLTAGE ZENON 101 :

PHEW! advice from a buddy who is very much in the know when it comes to electronics ( its his living ) Warned about running these three wires from inside the turret to the end of your barrel...TEFLON wire MUST be used otherwise the voltage will jump/arch across the wires when run so close together....shorting out ..well...pretty much everything from the wires, capacitor, board and the tube.
Now in searching for free Relays I pulled two out of an old standard on the counter Microwave oven....it also had some interesting wires....have not had the chance to verify them yet but they may just be TEFLON coated wires.....as these sorts of wire are very pricey 8O

I will update when I learn and find out more.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks Freaky Dude I will.

Nope the wires from the Microwave were not Teflon.

Still working on it. Bad time of year for getting any quality Hobby time in.

Right now with what time I get I'm trying to tackle the double transmitter board in one receiver
and finding a smaller yet equal power source with the right amperage output. If possible.

Still can turn out to be a very easy and super cheap way to control most of the higher functions
with one board and control only the motors with the other board.

On that note: Does anyone have any spare crystals that or #4 or higher? I only need two.
Thanks!

My other tank will need what I stole from it.
