COOL!!! My FLASH prayer has been answered!

1/16 RC Tank Custom Barrel / muzzle Flash using a disposable camera flash system. The system is self contained and uses the common and positive leads from the Barrel Elevation and the Air Soft. A relay must be used as the trigger wire on those cameras hold up to 300 Volts. The relay's Magnet runs off the 6.9V from the systems mentioned and then when triggered the contacts for the Camera Flash are closed inside the Relay. This works on the 13, 14 and 18 HL boards....as long as you have the Air Soft BB shoot option.

GOOD NEWS! If you want to use the telephone cord swivel/detangler you can! as there are still only 4 wires total as the Flash unit is self contained and very small. This was just a quick assembly and I will most likely use a newer and smaller camera...this one is older and uses 3V....most are 1.5V. CAUTION!!! These Camera flash units have large Capacitors that HOLD up to 300V AC......though the amps are very low....it still hurts like CRAP! and at 300V....I use a household 60watt lamp to discharge the Capacitor. Most of these systems do not require recharge time and you can fire as much as you want.

Does anyone know if an automatic discharge is necessary? ....I figure as long as the system is all heat shrinked and tight....its safe.

Nice conversion, i have seen a few done in the past. To the best of my knowledge an automatic discharge is NOT needed. The voltage will simply bleed away with time....BUT...you do have to remember NOT to toch the electrics for a few days.....SO....maybe a simple pair of wires that normally has a cover could be used at the end of use to discharge the capacitor...just in case you forget one day and get a nice little 'JOLT'

Ya! While taking it apart I got bit once YOWCH! ...but it was a quick brush on some metal part and my hands were very dry. For discharging I'm using a 60 Watt light bulb but I have been told that a 12 Auto lamp works well too.

I'm so excited about this mod and the fact that I at 4 wires! 360 turret here I come!
plusr for some strange reason my Tamiya recoil is dead on! and has been for at least
20 or more rotations. ( keeping mein fingers crossed ) but a buddy told me the other day
about a timer circuit that will regulate the rotations on the motor so one way or the other
it will be fine.

When I was an apprentice we had a testing equipment called a mega, basically an electrical multi meter but could also put out 500 or 1000v dc. We had fun with that

I'm not sure about ALL disposable Flash units but I found a newer Kodak that uses a single 1.5V and was thinking how cool....less stuff on the circuit board and only one battery.

The slightly older system that I robbed my flash guts from is 3V.... but the re-charge is almost instantaneous stays bright. I'll stick with this one. This is my Non-Kid weekend which means My Darling Fraulein is over so I will put together more info and pics early this week.

I need to find a relay that will close two separate circuits at the same time using the HL elevation and Air soft wires.....that way the system is only charged and flash at the same time....I'm pretty sure it will work. Then I will have a hidden panel on the turret somewhere so the Capacitor can be discharged after use and for safe storing.....not 100% necessary but best just an extra precaution.
