Heng Long Tiger track problems!

Not sure if there is a cure for this, but my friend has a Heng Long Tiger(standard plastic gears and motors) & the tracks are forever coming off(on dirt, grass or gravel)!

I know its a common problem on the Tiger & I was just wondering if there was a cure for this?

Any ideas would be welcome!

Jason

I had a similar problem last week, but with metal track.

The proper count of shoes is supposed to be at 96 on each side. I thought it was a bit tight so I upped it to 98 and popped track. I then dropped one to make it 97 and haven't had a problem since and I'm still breaking in the track.

More than likely after a bit more usage I'll be dropping it down to 96 once the metal stretches a bit.

Hope that helps.

Regards

On mine I found the plastic idler wheels had too much play so changed them to metal ones which helped. Also filed away some of the plastic road wheels to help alignment.

But I think biggest problem was the standard gearbox makes the speed to high as now i've converted the gearbox to low ratio the speed is less and the tracks hardly ever come off. This is same with my other Tiger with metal etc but fast and that it always comes off on fast turns.

thanks guys
Thats a couple of things I can try for him.
First I'll ad an extra links & if that doesnt work I'll have a look at the idler wheels.
Sadly I dont think He's willing to upgrade to a lower ratio gearbox.

Thanks again, much apreciated

I'm not saying upgrading the gearbox is required. Maybe try altering the driving style, don't forget the standard tank has a slow and fast speed try turning at the lower speed. Or I find doing a super spin (both tracks in different directions) works well with out loosing the tracks.

But you'll never get it anywhere near as good as the KV-1. ;)

The kv-1 is great! I dont think I've ever thrown a track.

Hows your idler wheel fix going on your kv-1?

Still not got round to it. :{

That's the problem of having more than one tank one will be flavour of the month and at moment still working on my Tiger with metal hull, finally sorted the gearbox problem last Sunday so now attention turned to stopping the tracks from coming off.

Hi Jason001,
The reduced ratio gearboxes are a 'Must Have' item on the tanks.....if you or your friend are reasonably good with tools then it is easy to convert a pair of the STANDARD metal gear boxes to a 3-1 Reduction set, and it is also MUCH cheaper to buy a standard set....here is the link on how to do it....all you need is the Plastic 'first' gear..... :D

I hope that it helps...

In the end we decided to ditch his tiger and fit all his parts onto an old 2nd hand bulldog chassis and upper body I picked up cheap off ebay.

There is a track tensioner from Henntech that can fix the problem.

I have them fitted in my HL Tiger 1 and the tracks only come off now when i go in very rough terrain, they hold up perfectly during a battle.

Custom made by Guido Henn, he makes them for a very large variety of tanks, i also have them fitted in my Tamiya King Tiger.
