OH NO! not another how to hook up stuff post!

Howdy Gang,
I have read more than a few " how too's " concerning the 18 board and hooking up LED's and Flash units.
I'm still not 100% clear on a couple things.
1. If I use my own LED for the barrel flash.....will I need a relay and 555 timer to get the flash timing right?........I already installed the diode on the bottom of the board.
2. the RX18 only has one 8 pin connector for the turret, barrel and lighting controls and on the top side there is the 5 pin X2, 3 pin volume and the 2 pin speaker.....but they keep referring to another 8 pin .....Is the 'HULL' 8 pin and 'Turret' 8 pin the same thing?? ......and if so does that mean that some pins share other functions?
*** On the chart they refer to the upper pins as "8 pin and 2 pin plus 5 pin connector" ...not connector-s ....What do they mean by 8 pin when talking about the top section?
3. For the Tamiya Barrel recoil motor and the Flash LED...do I use the Tanks battery ground
wire for the negative?

Hi Fritz , The recoil unit and micro swith for the flash , replaces the BB gun , using the same wiring and is activated the same way from the TX , there is no timer . However , the flash unit capacitor needs to be 'on' all the time , so that it can recharge . This the where top 5 pin socket comes in - You 'borrow' the PERMANTLY LIVE 7v pins

the other pins are IR battle system ones and are now redundant . ' Hull ' and ' turret ' 8 pin outs refer to the opposite ends of the same connector . * Be careful , it is easy to fit the 8 pin cable 'back to front ' - this will make the colours all wrong ! - on the RX 18 , be sure the RED wire is on the right . ( I put a spot of paint on the side to remind myself , ahem .

The 8 pin cables I am using just happen to be in my misc electronics and wire box.....well it was a 9 pin system but thats what Dremel's are for
Only the 1st cable is white all the others are blue so I had to be careful and match them up when I soldered them together.....other wise it would have been 2 feet long. So my white lead is my marker for pin one.
So far for my muzzle FLASH I am using just a single 3mm 29000mcd white LED with a 200ohm resistor.
Will that work?
I did add the Diode to the bottom of my Rx18 already.
Always hot?? ......not sure I fallow how that works.
and.....do the Tamiya recoil unit and the Flash LED use the 'common' negative ground from the power switch?

Hi Fritz , i don't know about the Tamaya set up , but it has been done
- Q. what flash unit are you using to power the bulb ?

Thats just it....no flash unit at all....just an LED....that won't work by itself will it?

No , you'll need the capacitor (a quick discharge , high voltage battery thingy ) as shown here -

- - Don't be tempted to remove the plastic covering , these things BITE !

You're in luck Herr Fritz , here is an RX18 diagram showing Tamiya recoil connections ( top left )

Thanks. I have that saved but my Tamiya recoil harness has three leads total....a Dark blue and green lead as well as the white lead. Where does the drk blue and green go?
The green lead comes from the Recoil Motor, The White comes from the Motor then is shared with the micro switch....the dark blue wire comes from the micro switch.
Do I also need a 'Flash' unit or does the RX-18 ( with the diode treatment ) have that capability
already?
Thanks!

I must be going mad here in the picture/diagram the it says the blue and green are connected to the smoke unit. (red writing).
That doesn't sound correct.

Thats funny as I did not notice those two designations before now. hmmmm.
Right now I am shaving my HL BB shooter down to nothing to hold my Tamiya recoil
unit.....but looking at the Tamiya parts lay out....it may be easier to just use the whole Tamiya tray and elevation system....seems cheap enough on sleezbay.
If I use the HL elevation system I heated and bent the tab a bit so the Barrel rises up a tad higher....always thought it should have.
