Have any of you crewmen seen this Muzzle Brake before? I would love to know the history of this Tank and unit.

Its on the back cover of my Panzer Aces book by Franz Kurowski but its not featured inside ....strange huh.

Danke!

I did finally find the page. All it says is: "The business end of a Tigers 88" Oh well.

Pretty cool looking, can't tell much about the tank, twin site Mantlet, one head light visible, the track hangers were common through out the range of modifications, maybe a mid version, the smoke dischargers were used through out the range, No markings available.

Pretty hard to say what version or Front? But very cool idea I THINK I will copy, thanks for posting

No problem. I may just do that to my Tiger ...if I can not find something more interesting.
I'm still leaning towards the forward Tiger in Saving Privet Ryan even tho it was a beefed up Russian chassis LOL....not a bad job though.

I model Grossdeutschland units and several of my Tanks have T35/85 Logo's on the barrel guides, with kill rings on the barrels. This is a nice touch,my Tiger S13 is an "EARLY VERSION" Tiger from the first Tiger company deployed by Grossdeutschland Division. The Teeth could become a similar effect on your tanks, makes them rather personal and really unique.

After all these guys lived in these machines, and would add personal touches where and when possible.

Hi Herr Fritz ,
You beat me to it in posting this picture...it is an earlier version of the Tiger as it has the twin outer headlamps, and interestingly it also has 3 additional track links as extra armour mounted on the Frontal armour that has the drivers slit and the bow MG in.....The Extra armour I have only seen added to a few Tigers, one of which used a few links of Panzer III armour to 'Fill' the gap between the drivers slit and the MG as Tiger track is too long.
Here is the Tiger .....Note the 'Repair' patch of armour welded onto the side of the turret between the gun pivot and the observation slit !

Tiger im Focus has several pics of Tigers with the spare tracks mounted in this fashion, particularly in the 503 galleries.

Many pictures of the Tigers in Africa have the extra tracks mounted on the front (the picture Dietrich posted is Tiger 712 sent back to Aberdeen Proving Grounds if I recall), but the last picture with the damaged gun tube is a bit of an anomaly. It has the early style mantlet (the lack of the reinforced gunner's periscope) but seems to have a late cupola (the commander's hatch is swung over the left side of the turret).

I wonder what the scoop is on that Tiger...
