it seems my hl smoker has packed up after a day. I've opened her up and she seems intact although the cootton wool was qabsolutely drenched and reservoir quite ful. Has it beeb over oiled?

I've read a few accounts of modifying unfortunately i'm not skilled enough to modify. is there another cheapish product that fiots the hl footprint?

Over filling it will stop the smoke but not break it. If overfilled it generally heats up the oil in the tank rather than vappurising it.

If you remove the tank head so the element is out and run it, it should smoke. If it doesnt chances are the element has broke.

Best pour oil out of tank and get it smoking as above then slowly put back together making sure it still making smoke. Another thing to check is the pipes and holes in top of tank are clear of any oil, just blow down them.

Hope that helps and its fine for you.

The wire element is fragile and normally breaks where it joins the circuit board. If you've a multimeter you can check continuity to see where broke, then carefully join with some stripped cable. But to be honest very fiddly and if done wrong the resistance of element will be too low and risk damaging the rx18 board.

You can replace the element with a 15ohm wire wound resistor. Apart from that you looking at a new one for £10 or so.

Hi Guys,
The 'NiChrome wire' a used in the heng long smoker really is a waste of time.....I have a reel of the right size and can supply it by say a 6 inch length if you want persevere with the idea. It cannot be soldered so you would need to use it with the metal screw part of a 'Chocolate box' connector, or crimp it on in some way.
A MUCH better idea is in this thread. It uses the Heng Long screw top smoke box, a mini 5 volt fan and a
14 Ohm 1 Watt Ceramic wirewound resistor.......

If anyone wants the wire then PM me ...but I would follow the method in the thread, even if you only use the smoker part and miss out the 'Pulse-Effect'

I got these 3w resistors
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230637495755? ... 1439.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Quite big so easy to tie your wick around it.

The element is 15ohms so if you go lower you getter better heating effect but bigger drain on battery and RX18.
