Bang goes the charger!!

I was weathering the upper hull of my latest Jagdpanther when I heard a loud BANG! in the back room. Went in to investigate and traced the burning electrical smell to my Heng Long charger that had only been charging a battery for 45minutes.
It was so hot I had to pick it up with oven gloves, outer casing was beginning to melt. Just as well it wasn't left on for a four hour charge or I think the house would have caught fire.
Has anyone else had a problem with a Heng Long charger?

Chinese electrics. Never use them. Invest in a smart charger.

You are lucky the battery didn't get a 240v charge, that would have been quite a pyrotechnic show.

Hi magmer,
I would look at buying a much better battery charger than the usual trickle chargers I use a PRO-PEAK VARIPULSE
http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/62954/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I paid less, but this just shows you what it looks like and what it does.
It can fast charge the batterys and also slow charge them to 'recover' dead ones. On the fast charge mode it signals an alarm for 16 seconds ( Unless you hit a button ) to tell you that the battery is charged and ready to go.
This is a great charger and has a DC option so that you can charge your tank battery from your car battery if you are away from home.

Thanks Alb, I will certainly look into that. I have loads of HL chargers so if this is really good i will be able to dispose of them before they dispose of me!!
