Hi there,

Picked up a basic (non smoke/sound) Heng Long Tiger, had great fun driving around the house and patio but found it got bogged down/stuck very easily on the grass or dirt.

To improve the traction I've fitted a metal low ratio gearbox with black capped motors from http://www.tankzone.co.uk/cart/hl_t1.htm and its improved things a little, it still gets stuck trying to turn on even shortish grass though.

Would a motor upgrade (I've seen Graupner speed 400 or Jamara 480 HS PRO mentioned) help? Or are they just going to add speed rather than torque.

Hi Emoose
If you have too much torque, you may find that you either strip your gearboxes or snap your tracks when you try to turn, especially on grass. Grass is a very high friction surface. even my 1/8th Pershing is slow to turn, even with 2X 250W motors.
May pay you just to persevere with your current set up.

Thanks for the info,
hmm in my mind I thought that more friction would help, let the tracks grip better and turn the body...thinking about I can see that the tracks would need to slide sideways, against the friction of the grass when turning rather than rolling forwards.

I'll run in the gearboxes properly and see how it goes.
Got a question about swapping motors but i'll post that in the main body of the forum,

thanks again!
