The greatest chase in Royal Naval History

Post by Saxondog »

Alot has been written on this subject, and is still debated today, but the German Navy and operation RHEINUBUNG was to be the greatest disruption of allied shipping to date, and gave the British their second defeat and great chase of WWII.

This battle was magnificent to witness, tragic beyond words but also the balance of the war was at stake.Bismarck could stand off and sink any single Battleship then in service with the Royal Navy. But the HMS Hood may of been a powerful ship when launched but even then she was a Battle-cruiser not a battleship. The main difference is armor plate,Hood had very little armor, and Bismarck was an armored battle ship of no equal at the time she sailed and sank the Hood.
