Zimmerit on the Saumur Tiger 1

Ok, Ok, so maybe I'm getting a little too obsessed with this whole Zimmerit thing...

But does anyone have any info / theories about the Zimmerit on the Tiger 1 at Saumur (and, indeed, some of the other tanks in their collection?)

It just looks too perfect to me and I was wondering if what we are looking at is a post-war application.

Plus I have never seen the paste applied to the ball mount and driver's visor like this in any wartime photos (although I admit it's sometimes hard to spot these things).

I think it's important to note this otherwise people like me might try to copy something which was never there in the first place.

Is anyone else losing sleep over this?

Tim

Good point, I think you may be right about post war/museum applications, but who knows ?
I did not zim my mg ball mount and drivers visor. I loosley modeled mine on wittmans Normandy Tiger 222

I think you're right, the zimmerit was not usually on the ball mount and drivers visor, and most Tigers of that vintage ie 44 mids and late/final had a heavier pattern on turret sides, however the zim looks well done and very much like original on bovington KT and Jagdtiger,

As was already mentioned the zimmerit on the turret was usually quite different from the hull. Wider and flatter but I have seen exceptions on this also. No matter how hard you try, somebody will always point out some detail later. Most will just applaud your efforts for trying. The main thing is to have fun with the build. I am pretty sure the Samur Tiger is one that has had some fresh zimmerit added post war. Sure the factory application did'nt include it around the ball mount. Pay attention to the rear plate also around the rear mudflap hinges. This area did'nt get zimmerit either.
