Newbiest of Newbs...

Hello everyone.

I am here because I have a small project that I promised my son we would try to work on this summer. My son is 6 and we are both big fans of the new MMO game World of Tanks. We have an old RC tank and it is the type that has a cord running directly from the controller to tank. We want to restore the tank, convert it to wireless, and maybe do some custom painting on it.

Here's the kicker, I know nothing about doing most of that. Well, I know a little, but not much. So, I figured I needed to find a good forum to help me out, I'm hoping this will be the one. If not, I would appreciate some other suggestions.

Here are some pics of the tank:

Don't bother asking why we want to do this when we could go out and buy a new $50 toy and call it good, because we don't know. Probably because it was passed down by an older family member and we think it deserves a fresh start. So, be looking for the clueless new guy to ask plenty of dumb questions.

thanks

Well it has 2 motors already fitted so you have a good starting point. I'd find a nice 2 channel RC unit now. Or a 4 channel if you want other bits moving.

Thanks guys!

@Andy - I'm assuming I will need to look for a trans/rec combo. Is there something I need to look for to make sure they will work together or aren't made for a purpose other than what I need?

Welcome, the Tank could be set up as a Standard Heng Long Tank for the least amount of money. But Let me suggest that when finished you will have as much money in this tank as the cost of a new one. You might contact Dave Forgebear on this forum if your in the UK.If you in the USA then Phil @ rctankwarfare would be a great source as well/

Both these guys are members here and very well known for great service.
