Just a quick one ,I wanted to replace the side track guards on my heng long tiger with metal but had no idea where to find scale nuts and bolts or even what size or how to order i just knew they were bloody small(technical Term)

by coincidence i was having a clock repaired by a local shop and when he came out to pick it up i had the idea to ask him, if anyone would know about tiny nuts and bolts it would be him ,as luck would have it he is also a model maker so i asked him where i could get said nuts and bolts so he had a look at the side guards and said they were a bit large for the stuff he uses

but he might be able to help out ,today he turned up with 30 odd nuts and bolts that he made for me and would take nothing for it although i was thrusting pound notes at him said he was just glad to help out a fellow modler

so for all you guys out there that are new to the hobby and even some old hands may i suggest you make friends with your local clock repair guy (check yellow pages )if you need custom made nuts bolts etc as they may be able to help out i cant guarantee they will all be so helpful or would do it for free but i'm sure a price could be negotiated to your mutual benefits .as you can see in the picture i enclose thats a 5p piece for scale he threaded some collets to match the screws so the "nuts" are round at moment but a couple of mins with a file can soon put the flats on them to aproximate the nuts .hope its of use to some of you out there .all the best Rob

Maybe you are just a lucky person. Good luck to the kind chap.
If that fails I get a lot of nuts and bolts from microfasteners.com.

Rob I never thought about that source, two blocks away an older neighbour repairs clocks,he has an window clock to advertise. I think he could use a visit. Very thoughtful of you to post this as a source.
I have been wanting to use the correct scale hardware on my King Tiger track guards.
Maintcoder,I checked out your link and find it is an excellent source, very helpful when the venders use a diagram for thread pitch.length and size. Photos just don't do it. I have been ordering from Dubro but had to order twice as they do not detail the shoulder to thread length which was the main issue in the bolts I needed.
Thanks guys helped me out and I'm sure many others.
thanks Sax

As a complete newb to the topic i wonder if it would be possible if the more experienced modelers out there could get together and post the correct size of the nuts and bolts needed for the track guards and any other nuts and bolts that they consider would be helpfull for the various available models , its ok to post a link to a site but if your not from an engineering background and not sure of sizes, thread pitch /varience/ metric/ imperial or lengths it can be overwelming ,but if they are posted somewhere on this forum at least us newcomers would have some idea what we are ordering, as looking at some of the prices of model size nuts /bolts you can easily spend a fortune just guessing at what you need, its easy to see with one in your hand its a lot tougher looking at a picture or list of tech specs.please dont get me wrong i am not complaining, this and other forums are packed full of information for the new modeler freely given by the members but if the sizes we need to buy could be posted here it would be very usefull to new modelers of an intermediate skill level who want to have a crack at this sort of mod .even blake with all his experience says he got it wrong on an order

,if one kind soul or a group of experienced modelers could post them in the various sections either heng long /tamia or even in the FAQ's or things to fix section it would be greatly appreciated by the newest members of this forum i'm sure

.thank you guys for taking the time to read and reply to this post all the best Rob
