Hi peeps, when I say peeps I don't mean Samuel Peeps that would be ridiculous , (I was like this at school could never keep to the point, "yes I was the class clown", anyway just thought I should introduce myself, up until last Sunday I had no real interest in r/c tanks, I fly r/c planes and boats, no I don't fly the boats, i digress again! I was at a boot sale Sunday and spotted a large box with a picture of a tank on it, had a quick look through the cellophane window of said box and there seemed to be a tank inside plus radio etc. in pretty good condition, I asked the seller what he wanted and he said £25. now the cogs were spinning and rapid calculations were being made. My instant thoughts were offer £20 and sell it in ebay for £30. so i bought the tank (a Heng Long Tiger 1) got it home powered up the tranny, switched on and away she went, but, there is a but, he told me it all worked, sound, recoil, bb gun,and smoke, he was a lying bum, the smoke didn't work, still a bargain I thought, I spotted a loose wire through the engine grill so, took the top off and low and behold........ no smoke unit, it had been removed, all that's left is the power feed wires which when tested show 7.5 volts, now after all this, does anyone know were I can get a smoke unit and are they proportional, ie. the faster you go the more smoke produced? Im going to keep it now, after playing with it in the garden I think iv caught the bug, its stripped down completely and I have applied Zimmerit to the appropriate places, which i have to say looks the business, I also need info on colour schemes, its desert colours and I want to change it to European theatre colours. last thing, where do people go to show off there toys, I mean scale models. I'm based in Goucestershire.

This tank has metal gearboxes, is this a standard fit or an upgrade? and it wines a bit when its moving, is this the motors or the gears?

depends you can get a metal gearbox option , or they could be aftermarket ones , a pic would help, yes the gears are noisey, this can be helped by running them in
ice

this is a second hand tank so i guess its had enough use to have run it in, i was confused by your reply for a minute, i wondered how "running them in ice" would help, then i realised that was your user name, well it is midnight.
