HL Panther G Question

Hi,

Just joined. Many many years experience with RC (helicopters and planes) but none with tanks. Always fancied one but had only seen the Tamiyas and wasn't prepared to pay that sort of money on what might be a passing fad.

Recently I've seen the HL tanks, which are cheap and with a new paint job look pretty good.

I want proportional speed control and a lot of what I've read says that if I get a Panther G with sound and smoke then it will have proportional (or at least 10 speed) speed control forwards and backwards.

So almost set to buy a HL Panther G Pro. But every store listing I see says that it has just 2 forward and 2 reverse speeds.

Does this sound right or is a misprint (at source and reproduced all over the place). If I buy a S&S Panther G am I guaranteed to get proportional speed control or could I end up with just 2 speed?

Many thanks for your help and advice.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi Nigel , smoke and sound should have the RX 18 unit , the 2 speed set up is the old 'ABC' set up which dosn't have any of these functions .
  • Why not have a word with Dave (Forgebear) or Phil @ Welshdragon (in the vendors section) They are both great guy's and really know their way aound these units and are sure to point you in the right direction .
Blimp .

The Panther"G" should have the new RX18,and like my Jagdpanther it goes from creeping to a good rate of speed. blimp right about the abc switch, and Dave or Steve will certainly provide you with the right information and Tank as well.

The online power house venders might save a few penny's but purchasing from the recommended venders insure quality and personal service. That's is a valuable quality in itself, and you will receive a working tank. welcome to the forum as well. Saxondog

Hi Nigel ,Saw your post on RCU, I have delt with Dave (forgebear) .He dose attend meetings and is a member here,so he is not a flyby night out to make a quick profit. He has just had some new tanks.
He only stocks Tanks with metal gears and RX18 smoke and sound,If you send him a P.M. he normaly takes off the postage for members here.He dose have the Panther G in stock but only the I.R. version(Heng Long I.R. can only battle other Heng Long I.R. tanks,But they can be upgraded to battle with Tamiya tanks)He also has the Jagdpanther I.R.in stock at the momment. He has more on the way.

regards pete

P.S. At the momment only Few tanks have I.R. fitted Stug III Panther jagdpanther and KV1.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, I have already heard good things about Forgebear on RCU and seen his website.

I'm particularly after the Panther G Pro with the metal tracks.

Also as it will be a present for my son (of course I will help him play with it ;) ) I know he would prefer the BB version.

If I google 'Heng Long Panther G Pro' I will hit loads of retailers who all state that it has 2 forward and 2 reverse speeds. On the one hand you could say that is conclusive, but in reality I suspect it is because they have all be provided with the same erroneous data buy the distributer.

My concern is that it may be genuine, that they do have cut-down controllers - either by design or because someone has decided to swap them over because they can sell the RX-18 boards seperately.

But I'm not sure that is even possible. Every hit says that it has smoke and sound and from what I understand here and elesewhere is that if it has smoke and sound then it has proportional speed (though not necessarily using a RX-18 board).

Well I can see where the mis-information comes from. Just found the HL website and that describes all its tanks as only having 2 forward and 2 reverse speeds.

Cheers,

Nigel

The best way of getting a Panther G with proportional speed is to make sure it has the RX18 fitted as std, allot of the Panther G's out there at the moment are still sold with the RX13 Bourds fitted which are NOT the ABC Type,
there are also allot of vendors out there that are selling what they call the "Pro version" the truth of it is they are just std metal upgrade versions with no smoke or sound and the older RX bourds fitted (Not the RX18),
Be carefull and only buy from a recomended vendor,
Most of all ask questions and make sure they are the real Pro version with full metal upgrades inc Gearbox's, Tracks, Drive Sprockets and rear Idlers, Plus smoke and sound & the RX18,
There ar'nt many Panther G's out there with the RX18 bourd fitted at the moment so check carefully

I'm glad you asked this question as my next plan is a HL Panther, check out Nic H's build, when he's back from his trip he'll be able to point you in the right direction with superdetailing,I know what direction I going straight to forgebear when I've got the spare dosh!
