Any of you guys bought the Hooben T55? Any and all imputs on the quality/problems with etc would be greatfully received as I'm thinking about getting one.....just thinking.

It takes a lot of work to make a really good model out of it. Plastic work needs a lot of filing and filling as parts are poorly moulded, I had to rebuild both gearboxes on mine, road wheel bearings and idler bearings could be better, tracks are not that strong (though they do hang nicely).
My recoil mechanism did not work and had to be rebuilt, the instructions are poor but do provide amusing reading in parts and it suffers from a lack of internal space. I've also heard that some gun barrels are not bored right through. Mine was (just) but I had to enlarge the hole in order to get wiring up it.

The hull will twist a bit if you don't stiffen it, and if you are going to fit metal tracks when they become available at a reasonable price you will need a brace across the front as well as idler and roadwheel mods.

Having said that, if you are prepared to put the time into it you could end up with an excellent model. Mine is running really well, but it is very heavily modified and I'm quite pleased with it.

From what I can gather, Hooben are doing mods as production increases so you may well find that some of the above comments do not apply to current production. Mine was quite an early one.

Don't expect it to be up and running in a weekend. You might be able to do this with a Tam kit, (unpainted), but you certainly won't with this.

Definately worth buying if you are an experienced modeller and have patience. Not heard any reports about the factory built ones yet other than some of the detail bits falling off.

According to Septon, Tam Pershing gearboxes will fit, but you need a mounting plate and Rshermanking has fitted Tam KV1 electronics and made quite a neat job of it.

The thousand dollar question is - would I build another one?
