Hi I hope someone can help me ,

I have a H/L Tiger everything the right way round and seems all OK ...BUT reading posts on here there is an issue with the turret being 5mm to far forwards and in one post on another RC site claiming that the H/L has part of the lower turret missing so that it does not foul some of the deck detail !......... Now ive sat for ages trying to compare my Tiger with others and actual photos but I just cant see what the problem is supposed to be ! Can anyone please help me with a picture/photo this may seem small but i cant continue with my project until I get this part right !

Can you post some photos, I know when the barrel is at its lowest point on mine it hits the lights, but I have no with the turret.

hi n, what they are refering to it that the turret is off centre , littletankman has a thread on how to correct this , but the pictures are missing

Thanks , I really could do with seeing what they mean, at the moment my Tiger is in pieces and I want to get any major cutting etc out of the way ! I tried to avoid getting to obsessed with detail but I seem to have slipped into obsessive mode !

Ive had a re-look at the turret and now see the issue with the part of the H/L turret that is missing so that it doesn't foul any of the deck fittings, Im now trying to alter it so that the turret looks true to the real thing which means shifting some of the fittings ! Thanks for the help everyone !

Hello Mark , is this the sort of thing you're thinking of ? -

The turret is of centre because of the BB gun . the large plasticard disc here illustrates how much . the inner one shows where the true centre should be (pos. B ).

• 

using the inner piece , mark a new centre 14.5 mm to the rear . Then a compass cutter is used to scribe through the plastic , i cut through from the inside and the outer face alternatley , it makes for a cleaner cut .

• 

remove the parts and just swop the bit over . no waste . sneaky eh ?

• 

- Using the 'proper' centre mark again , you can also round off the front lower edge , this keeps the bottom of the turret round , important if you intend to do a 'shot ring' later . but probably not necessary on an early version .

• 

this and the rear 'step' can be filled in , i used 2mm (.080" ) plasticard + filler.

• 

the turret ring in the hull is done in a similar fashion , the new centre is 72mm + 1mm(to clear the engine hatch ) from the back .the figure should read 13mm on the disc here , i overcompensated for the zimmeritt on mine this will need reinforcing underneath . the raised edge removing , and finally a .6mm (.025") plasticard ring added to restore the hull / turret clearance (10mm on the real thing ) i took the opportunity to move the turret drive motor to the front , over the gearboxes out of the way oh , and yes the front of the turret is too long , but correcting it means cutting a new front profile and moving the trunnions back . - you will lose the BB if this is done , it will no longer fit !

I have done something similar with mine, I used aluminium instead of plasticard though !
hope to have this part all done in about a weeks time !

Ta Mark , one thing i forgot , you will need to remove some of the turret base , at full elevation the BB unit will foul the front of the turret/ring gear .

If you do decide that you want to correct the front , it's not for the faint hearted - here's wot i dun . . .

• 

trim 5mm from the front edges , right back to the turret roof 'weld' line , remove the moulded 'trunnions' and the internal gun mountings including the BB hopper .

• 

because the whole gun is now further back , the elevation motor needs altering .holding the unit in the turret , cog downwards , scribe a line around the part that protrudes . . .

• 

. . . . Then disassemble the unit and remove the large cam wheel , a hacksaw was used to remove the unwanted plastic . also saw off the cam , leaving a nice big cog . the trusty compass cutter cut a disc from the bottom half of the unit , this is for a spigot (ignore this ball joint , i tried to employ a crank at first but the isn't enough room - a spigot was eventually used , a real bumclenching moment that , i thought i'd muffed it up ) Then put both halves back together and file/sand it nice and square . . .

• i filled the new 'bottom' with some plastic offcuts , screws through the turret hold the new 'servo' firmly in place .

• ( I still needed to cut an extra notch in the turret ring for the small gear

( the turret bin can be removed entirely if you want - I'll make a proper one later )

• now the gun elevator , a simple slot in some plasticard , another piece on the back keeps it from distorting . stuck to the side of the BB unit with plain old plasiweld . . .

• I removed the old operating arm , as it fouls the roof . the lower dotted area is where the slot goes ( 33mm long x 5mm wide ) don't set it higher than this or the mantlet will jam at high elevation .

As i'd removed the inner BB mounts , spare axles from my Asiatam hull made excellent new trunnions - pushed into 3mm holes drilled through the new biro + milliput bosses , into the sides of the mantlet (i thickened the sides here , with more scrap plastic .* NOTE the mantlet is not symetrical ,because the BB lower edge . the holes should be slightly higher than the centre .

• . . . .Phew , it works !

- . . . Oh , BTW. if you are using the original H/L hull , the battery compartment / rx mount has to go , too - you'll need all the clearance you can get , ( this is why H/L altered the turret in the first place ) . . . . Agggh !
