So of you may have seen my thread regarding my King Tiger, well I purchaced a set of kenny kong metal tracks and the 3:1 schumo drop down kit. Since this with about 20-30 minutes of running on grass and dirt my gear boxes have decided to eat them selves. Are there any replacement transmissions better than the tamiyas, is this a normal occurance and is there any suppliers of the individual gears (the same gear has become damaged on both transmission units)

Tom

Hi that sounds bad I would get in contact with whoever you bought them from I used the Wecohe gears fo my kt but they cost almost £300 so are a bit expensive and use the tamiya gears anyway here is the link to it

Thats rather odd, I know of others using this combination with no problems after extended use....

Were the drop down gears putting to much pressure onto the tammy gears ? - Not too sure how much adjustment you have at that point.

Try running them in with Automotive cam grinding compound, reduces friction and allows the gears to mesh smother. This will increase the life of the gears and they will run smoother, quieter, and require less energy to operate. Less power is less heat, less friction means longer life.

Look at this:

about 1/2 way down, my trans build. These are made of steel (allegedly stainless) and very strong. Trade off is some minimal Chinese quality issues as described in my thread.

I have put them through everything with a 15lb tank and no issues. rx-18 Board does not even overheat...
