what you have to remember is the Kett is a static kit the RC gear is extra as is the driver to get one up and running I think they are about £250

Great for the novelty value, xion are making some good (if expensive) unusual kits but as rivetcounter said £253.15 for the all singing kit at todays exchange rate BEFORE posting is a tad on the heavy side, go a good way towards a Tamiya sherman or god knows how many Hl's. I'm a poor old pensioner (it REALLY knobs my wife off when I say that) on a fixed income so think I'll give it a miss....for now.

ive seen the 'krad video clip, nice model, but like rivetcounter says the price is a bit steep, the way i would go, is buy a dragon in dreams 'krad, then rc that, it is do able, i know of one in the process of being done, the D.i.D model you can get cheap enough on ebay or the like

I built a 1/6 Kett using the DID chassis and wouldn't do one again complete waist of money and rarely ran for more than 30 mins without problems plus the overall cost you could buy a Tamiya Panther or Panzer IV and never have any problems for the same outlay plus more than 70% of the Kett was changed to get it running total waist of money

Hi Rivetcounter,

I tried converting the DID "RC ready" Kettenkrad and it was/is a right bugger! In fact, it has been so painful, that I have hardly touched any models in the last 3 months!
First I tried HL gearboxes on spacers to drive the tracks.
These did the job, but the tracks kept coming off. I got bigger gauge spring steel to improve the tension on the tracks and this improved it.
I also shaped the track teeth so they slipped more easily into the drive/idler wheels. I then put the groundwheels (what's the real name for these??) together using brass tube so they were rigid and fixed in diameter.
Still the tracks came off after a few seconds.
Then I modified my HL gearboxes so they were no longer on stilts/spacers. Now the Krad ran well. But so well that the plastic gears were eaten away when you changed direction. I changed to metal gears. These too were eaten by the momentum the Krad built up.

I lost interest and this is now a 'dead' project on my bench...

:(

The one I built was part of a program started by another modeler who went through all the changes to the standard chassis using various methods of drive all where failures in the end he made a new steel chassis and dumped the suspension this was by far the best result that he had managed and it still wouldn't run for more than 20 mins without having to repair it there are 3 that I know off and all have the same problems all where a waist of time money and effort I also know of others who have failed in an attempt to RC one of these things, personally I wouldn't even talk about all the problems I went through let alone build another one sorry to sound so negative but they are best left alone as static models

Mighty sweet, but where do you stuff the R/C hardware? Very cool though.....
