Was wandering if anyone could shed any light for me as i have to admit i'm a little confused.
I've seen and read various posts regarding upgrading the sound on a standard HL Tiger using the Elmod system. What actual components are required to achieve this and what is the approx total cost for these ?
Many thanks
Stu

Ive been checking on this as well. I can tell you it is a complete system for just about every thing including sound. SCale speeds, all controls, you need the soundblaster added to it for the sounds. In the States Ive found it for about $250 for both. It replaces the HL board. Someone with more experience can and should correct me if Im wrong. Im wanting to get this in my Tiger I at some point.

YOU NEED THE ELMOD BOARD EITHER ECO OR PRO. PRO HAS EXTRA FUNCTIONS BUT I THINK NOT WORTH THE COST. FOR SOUND THE BLASTER MOUNTS TO THE ELMOD. JUST PLUGS ON TOP. MUCH BETTER TANK CONTROL. ALSO YOU NEED A NEW RADIO RECEIVER. 4 CHANNEL IS OK. NO NEED FOR ANYTHING TOO EXPENSIVE. IT WAS POSSIBLE TO GET A CONVERTER TO USE THE HEG LONG RECEIVER BUT NO LONGER AVAILABLE. A SPEAKER CAN BE PLUGGED INTO THE BLASTER AND IT COMES WITH VOLUME CONTROL. THERE IS A MINI SD CARD MOUNTED TO THE BLASTER WHICH YOU CAN INSERT INTO SD READER VIA ADAPTER WHICH COMES WITH BLASTER. HERE YOU FIN FOLDERS WITH SOUND FILES FOR NUMEROUS TANKS. CHOOSE THE ONE YOU WANT. IT IS A BIT EXPENSIVE BUT BIG IMPROVEMENT TO A HENG LONG. YOU CAN SELL YOUR HENG LONG BOARDS, WILL PROBABLY NEED A HIGHER AMH BATTERY ALSO.
THIS IS MY TIGER WITH ELMOD AND BLASTER AND VISATON SPEAKER. I HAVE SINCE ADDED SOME MUSIC TO STARTUP. DID'NT UPLOAD VIDEO YET. I HAVE ALSO ADDED FUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHT AND SECOND MG.
THIS WAS THE SIMPLE EXPLANATION. POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS FOR SOUND AND ALSO CONTROL OVER DRIVE FUNCTIONS.

Hi JohnF
Really appreciate your info, i've been so confused as to what you do or don't require and thats helped me. Can i ask approx how much i'm looking at for all of the mentioned components for sound ?
wow I love your Tiger and can't believe how good the sound is, i've looked at loads on Youtube and thats the best example i've heard so far and thats the end result i hope for.
Many thanks
Stu

Thanks for your reply TexasTC, its good to know others are in the same situation as me. Hopefully one day we'll be able to post the end results of our tanks and they'll be as impressive as JohnF's

This was my early attempt. It has improved since. I am not the expert on the subject and have received lots of help from wibbly wobbly on the forum. I thought it would be better though if it is explained in a simple way as I was in your shoes a couple of months ago. It is an expensive route to follow and I wonder if it would be better to just put the money into a Tamiya instead but I have never seen one up close to judge the difference.
I bought my boards from Dominique at rctank.de. They are marginally cheaper if you buy direct from Elmod.de however Dominique offers excellent assistance in english and when I burnt out one of my boards he got it repaired for the price of a cup of coffee.
Cost estimate Elmod eco €100
Blaster €100
speaker €10 to €20
Radio receiver 2.4 4 channell around €60
I am not sure if the bb shooter works with it. I use asiatam recoil and flash but am not entirely happy with it. it has socket for Tamiya recoil.
no input socket for smoker but it can be wired into the motor connexions instead. I did'nt bother.
Heng long IR system not compatible. Elmod produce their own system which is far superior with lots of nice touches and is compatible with Tamiya. Blaster comes with a card reader to connect to reader to help manage sounds. You also have an option to use configurators to manage speed of all the tank movements. I do not have this. one just connects your tank to laptop and costs about €40 the other is a unit with digital screen whic allows programing without computer. It's about €100. On my last tank I bought a heng long in kit form from Asiatam.de It came with every metal upgrade and good quality gearbox but without any henglong electronics. No need to strip paint and no waste parts.
Hope this helps. The soud from my tiger in the clip was from one of the included sound files without modification. I have improved it since but cannot upload anything now as I am up a mountain in France until Feb with not a tank in sight.
Wiring is quite easy, setting up receiver took some effort as I know nothing about electronics or RC. If I can get it to work anybody can,
I think the pro version is not worth the extra cost, just some extra lights. bit too specialized for me.

brilliant thanks JohnF, I'll take a look at rctank.de
Looks like it will be a long term project due to the costs but after seeing your clip i think its well worth it.
Enjoy the slopes and i hope to see clips of your improved version
thanks

John, I just wanted to chime in on the PRo board. It is worth the money if you are going to use the extra capabilities it has. It does give you extra lighting extra machine gun, as well as direct connections to use servos for recoil and elevation. So, depending on the tank and its functions, the PRO is worth every cent. Here is a demo of my Leopard with the PRO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45m18Qh-wVM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Johnf and Yellowshaker those sound so good. Ive been tossin around the idea of buying the eco for 2 weeks. I just cant justify spending that much right now. When I had first thought about it, I didnt realize that the blaster was extra and necessary for the sounds. We have new carpets and floors goin in the house next week, just cant pull it off yet. But man I want it.

TexasTC, be careful of buying an elmod unit. Once you do, it will be something you want for every tank! LOL Good luck brother
