Hi guys......I got this foto on an e-mail at work the other day.
I thought I would share it with you all.......for those a bit confused, this is a gun...50 cal as the Americans call it....it must have a kick like an 88 on steroids.
If you want to know what he had just accomplished with it then pm me and I will return a foto.
It is very graphic and not for the squeamish....this young lad was protecting the allied compaound called the green zone.... he stopped a bomber!!!!!

Oh yeah thats a Barrett. Apparently the recoil isnt that bad due to some well designed shock absorbing doodahs. Have a search on youtube for 50cal sniper and you'll find some gorey footage and a guy in a firing range that had his ear protection blown off by a riccochetting bullet (damn lucky fella!)

Hello mickyb,
That is one hell of a riffle and one would not want to be on the receiving end of that bad boy.It will not only stop any person in their tracks,it does a good job at stoping most vehicles.I happen to have an empty 50 cal. brass, and I will post some pictures of it with some other ammo to get an idea of how big a 50 cal bullet is if someone has not seen them.
There is two six inch rullers in the photo's and a pop can for a little scale refference. Also a couple pictures of the 50 in my hand, and I have pretty good sized hands.
In the pictures from left to right------50 cal brass, 300 winchester magnum, 30-06 remington (used thru WWII ), 308 rem- (same as 7.62 Nato )
222-remington, 22 cal-rimfire

Hells bells. Then this is the same bore gun that sits on top of tank turrets.
What would be the range and what would it pierce?

Hello mickyb,
I have seen some of the specs- on the 50 cal,but don't know enough to realy post about them.I know with armour-piercing ammo they will distroy a car or truck engine.I would guess that gun in the hands of a marksman could knock out a human at a half mile away
and mabe farther.(just a guess). In the pictures above showing the 222 remington (these are very near the same size as the 223 used by the military
in vietnam, but are not interchangeable).I have fired the 222 rem- into a flat sheet of mild steel allmost 1/2 inch thick at a distance of about 20 feet away, and it went through it like you drilled a hole with a drill. This was with hunting type ammo with a copper jacket and soft lead tip. This was a 55 grain lead, shooting at just over 3,000 feet per second. The funny part is one would expect to see at the point of impact a buldge in a direction away from point of entry. Not the case it actualy puches out toward the point of entry, and this allways seemed strange to me.Some of the military guys can most likely post some of the ballistic facts on this 50 cal-gun.

Hello again Mike,
Its funny you mentioned using one for hunting, just read up on these in "wikipedia" (lot of info on them there) and was supprised to see that apparently they can be used in some places in this country for hunting.Allthough I can't help but wonder why anyone would want to use a gun of that size for any animals we hunt here in U.S. territorys,a 300 winchester will knock down any animal I know of that we have with no problem. The 300 win-magnum------7 mm--magnum-------30-06 and the 308 ---are about the most popular big game riffles here.

I think it's a case of mines bigger then yours.
Going off videos I've seen of this being used then any big game will be blow into nice burger sized chunks.
