I belong to ALIBABA which is a wholesale site. I have been wanting to build a few ships in 1/200 and 1/100 scale. I did not know that one company that I have been watching(ARKMODEL) is actually owned by HOOBEN and they have some fine ship kits. Been waiting on the Hooben E100 Which may never be available but I thought I would share this collection of ship models from Hooben.

Hi,

Hooben/Ark same company, same people, same quality issues.

There was a guy on the UKTC forum some time ago who had just bought a Perkasa and he posted a warning about the quality of the mouldings.

Yep that guy was me, and Im still filing the bastard thing down. Im refusing to start anymore tank kits till this boat is sea worthy. Ive got the 1/32 Perkasa. I have to say its now the most beautiful looking model boat i've ever seen and I'm well chuffed with it but god its been a long old slog to get it looking this way.

The moulding was something akin to the worst mouldings that Revell used to produce back in the 70's, sink holes, flash, bad fit. And then they go and include the most comprehensive A4 bras etch set youve ever seen. Weird.

and beware

Received an answer from HOOBEN this a.m. about the E100 Tank. They will not be releasing this model, then they try to get me to buy the T55? WEIRD is the right word

I like their battleship HMS.HOOD but for the price it should be perfect. Saxondog

Dear Mr Blake Bobbitt:
Thank you for our inquiry.
The E100 wont' come out.
But our T55 is ok.

Hi Rocket,

Glad to hear its coming on - slowly! I have to agree, Perkasa is one of the nicest looking boats around. I have a bit of a soft spot for it because years ago I managed to cram r/c into one of the 1/72 models.

I've taken a bit of a break from the T55 mechanics and am currently doing some of the plastic. At first sight the sprues didn't look too bad, but once you get into it things are much the same. It took me a whole evening to do the fuel drums and gun cleaning rod tubes and get them into fit condition to paint.

I would be very interested to see one of their ready to run models because if they go to the same sort of trouble building them they would not be able to afford to sell them.

Having said that, in terms of hours spent building versus cost of the kit, this must be one of the best value models around! But I could not recommend it as a first model. A bit of experience and a lot of patience is definately required.

Thanks Dave for the information. Please take lots of pictures of not only Tanks but maybe ships as well? My Fleet is a pride of accomplishment, but in time my Tanks may be as well.

cheers Blake
