Hello Guy's, Here is a question or two. First how many SS Panzer Divisions were their in Total?

Why did some use the Letter "S" before the numbers on their tanks? Grossdeutschland units did this to indicate "Schwere"or
"HEAVY"

Did SS Divisions use a common THREE DIGIT numbering system or were theirs different?

Their Tactical marker system was the same as the Army or different?

Hi Saxondog, there are a series of books by Michael Reynolds ( a retired British officer) about the SS panzer corps 'Men of Steel' 1st SS panzer Corp LSAH and 'Sons of the Reich' 2nd SS corps Das Reich etc lots of reference material in the appendixes about units maps etc.
The German word Schwere means heavy and Schwerig means difficult. Should be available on Amazon ISBN 1-86227-051-1 & 1-86227-146-1. Got mine at a model show. Hope this helps magmer
