As if in retaliation for their attacks on London the RAF Launched the first Air raids on Berlin 70 years ago today. This was difficult for the RAF as Berlin was stretching their fuel and anywhere they could land or bail out over was German controlled at this point. But the pilots attack plan was perfect and the Germans were not prepared for this assault believing the RAF could not effectively reach the German Capitol due to the distance and lack of Fighter support.

The 950kl/590 ml route was only possible at night , still at extreme range and a stressful situation as well.

The Germans were wrong and the RAF MANAGED to assault Berlin on the 25th and again on the 26th. This effort had a dramatic effect on the Luftwaffe and Goering. But the raid would lead directly to the German Blitz of British cities.
