I really like the Panther and Jadgpanther shape - unfortunately, these two tanks cost an arm and a leg when they come in a Tamiya box.

Has anyone done a conversion where they had a Heng Long and swapped in Tamiya electronics? With the fairly affordable electronics available on eBay or I could swap out my electronics from my Tiger, I could actually get a Jagd/Panther on the battlefield for cheap. At least, that's what I'm thinking...... not too sure if the wife would mind a third tank though.

Else, I might sell the Tiger to put it toward the Panther fund.

Hi r32 I've swapped my Tamiya Tiger 1 electronics into a Stug as well as my Matorro KT ( fitted onto Tamiya chassis ). Just get the JST style connectors for the elevation motor. If you are going to use a turret you will have to put a JST connector onto the turret rotation motor as well. I have tried to connect an Asiatam recoil system to the Tamiya MFU and had problems so in my opinion it's not worth the hassel. If you want to go down that road I would recommend using a Tamiya recoil system. You could also fit the Tamiya battle system as well if you wanted to. Any questions feel free to ask away.

PS I'm also going to use the Tiger 1 electronics in my HL Panther. I also bought a Jagdpanther top so I can swap those as well.

I have put Pershing electronics in my M41. I used left over 3 pin computer fan connectors for the rotation and elevation motor connections, but you can use any connector that has a 2.5mm pin spacing. You also need Tamiya motor bullet connectors for the motor wires (cutting the original connectors of the DMD wiring will void the warranty or so I'm told). The recoil and flash are tam parts stuffed into the HL, the recoiling barrel assembly is from tankmodelbau.de with a few (crudely hacked from brass) parts to get it all hooked up, and the turret mg uses a surplus plug from a tam MG assembly I hooked up to a terminal block in another project.

So does the tank work and drive like a Tamiya, simply by having Tamiya electronics?

The RCCommand 3:1 gearboxes in my M41 slightly reduce the acceleration from a standing start, and maybe top speed, but thats probably a good thing for their long term health.
Everything else works the same (I tested with the same Dx6i radio as I used for my Tam Sherman).

In my opinion, if you can keep the turret rotation and elevation mechanisms from the HL, and get asiatam or RCCommand 3:1 steel gears (if you need scale speed in a Panther than you might be better off with the asiatams) and the connectors listed, you can make a decent tank from a HL/Tam hybrid. in order to get the recoil you need a little more work, but its not impossible
