Our new close quarters battleground

Post by r32 »

I'd previously recce-d and posted some photographs of a potential new battleground and over the past weekend we had a 2 vs. 2 battle there. We had a Pershing and a Sherman going up against a Tiger and a Jagdpanther. CQB demands careful maneuvering of tanks in narrow spaces, and favours tanks with short gun barrels such as the Sherman and KV-1. Longer barrels like Tiger, Pershing and Jagdpanther's all require care to prevent dragging the barrel through the shrubs.

Although the field obstacles were shrubs, I could imagine that the block-layout of the shrubs could easily be buildings in a town or city, as they impose the same constraints. If you're lucky and the shrubs are thin enough you could actually shoot through the corner. The height of the shrubs also afford some camouflage, and hide the exact location or turret orientation of tanks from the opponents. It allows for ambush and flanking movements like that.

Once contact is made, the outcome of the battle is usually decided very quickly. I like it!

Thanks, in addition to radio controlled models, photography is a hobby as well. It gives me an excuse to travel the world to take phtoographs!

Some pictures from the game this past weekend, it was an all German turnout with three Leopard 2A6s, 1 Jagdpanther and 1 Tiger:
