Panther

Post by mickyb »

Hi guys.....

As I have just received the last components for my Tiger build I have a few weeks buzy time in the workshop putting the Tiger together.... but I have been looking at your builds and would love to get a Panther next.

Has anyone got a HL panther???

Am I correct in thinking that HL have used the Tiger chassis on the  Panther. When I was looking at the Tamiya version, the HL wheel layout looks different... am I correct?

What would I have to do to make the HL version correct or is it not worth doing it......

I need a few things still for the Tiger.... where do you get the spare track sections for fixing to the turret and hull.... do you buy a cheap plastic set and chop them up??

I had my 60th birthday this weekend but I am as excited about this comming Christmas as my young Grandson..... this site and its enthusiasm has given me a lot of enjoyment in a new hobby.... cheers guys.

Have a great week..............Mike ;D

hey mike, happy birthday!

the panther (hl) is renown for its bad scale replica, just about everything bar the front portion of the turret is wromg, not trying to put you off here just if you want it to be scale correct then its gonna be ALOT of work lol ;D

i would probably save the pennies and go for a tamiya, or even a second hand one ?!

thanks, im sure somebody else on this forum can answer you in a better way :(   ;D ;D ;D

cheers,

matt

I think you've about covered it, matt. There was a thread on RCU (which was reposted from somewhere else) where somebody "corrected" the HL Panther, but he pretty much had to make the whole think from scratch.

Your best bet is to wait until the JagdPanther comes out - maybe somebody like Imperial or Modellino will offer a replacement upper hull and turret as a kit (or HL will get around to making their own)
I bought a HL Panther a couple of years ago, it was nice as a toy for $45 but I soon started noticing things that were wrong with it. You can tart the Tiger up to correct most of its flaws (or just flat out ignore them), but the Panther is beyond help!

happy birthday mike, hope you had a good one, the hl "pantiger" is a pile of poo, but you could always convert it in to a jagdpanther, pugwash (lou) i think still has the conversion kits, i know hl are bringing one out, but it is more fun building yuor own, failng that you could always get into pyrotechnics, and blow up a hl panther, then use it as a battle field wreck ;D ;D

hehe blowing them up is about all they are worth in my eyes LOL

jagdpanther would still have the wrong wheels, and length / width ect.

shame tho, you could make a sturmtiger out of it?

cheers,
