Now the question is how much are they and who knows how to wire them to the DBC,would love to upgrade the sound on the DBC ,what we need is an electromagian to sort it.
while we have the attention of the electromagians how hard would it be to make our own system there dosnt seem to be anyone in Europe who make a system similar to the DBC/DBU at the same price,postage and customs kill what is a good priced product.

In answer to your question..a few options out there for sound cards. Emulating the DBU/DBC would not be difficult, but they are still pretty cheap as postage is minimal due to the weight, so its hardly worth re-inventing the bicycle. I have two Darkith setups and think that they are great.

Go with the ELV sound card. It has battle sound quality that equals ElMod and the has a built in Amp that is loud enough. If you hook up to a DBC 2 you can have a cannon sound, hit sound and death sound, all at digital quality. With the software that comes with it and the USB you can harvest any sound you want and digitaly capture it on the card. This allows you to record the appropriate cannon sound for your tank.

I have read your various threads on RCU in relation to this wizardry, is there any possibility that you could do a write up with pics showing step by step instructions on how to install and configure one of these. Like you, I am mightily impressed by these cards, and as you say, using the DBU/DBC would give us full Tamiya compatibility and stunning cannon/hit sounds.

I would also be interested in hooking up a card similar to the one in the video. Its on a Forces of Valour 1/24 I think, and the engine sounds etc are exceptional...but can it be done with a Heng Long?

The ELV cards come with software and great instructions, if you read German!!!!, I don't, but by using a translator I was able to figure it out.

The ELV card simply replaces the sound card that Darkith sells. You hook it up the same way. Instead of having buttons there are soldering terminals for your Cannon, Hit, and Destroy sounds. These are marked E1, E2 and E3. This sound card has a built in Amp that is at least equal to the Heng Long, and can power a speaker directly. This allows you to turn down the engine sounds , but still have a loud cannon blast. Optionally you can tie it into the Heng long electronics exactly the same way you do with sound card Darktih supplies.

You do need to solder in one capacitor and one volume control pot. The rest are surface mounted components

To load sounds on this card is simple. You first load the supplied software. You hook up the USB on the sound card to the computer. The card draws power from the USB connection and there is nothing else to hook up. You then run the software, click on a couple of buttons, and load sound clips from your computer on to the card. You then go and install the card into the tank. It has a small footprint about 25 mm2

Be warned though I bought three of these boards and one of them is causing me problems. It seems to have an intermittent short that distorts the sound. These boards all use surface mounted components, so there is little a hobbist can do to fix any wiring. THe frustrating thing is this particuliar board will function fine, and then start crapping out after about three cannon blasts. Most unusual, and I have yet to find out why, Not sure if it was something I did, or I just got a bad board.
