Tamiya sherman upgrades???

Hi everyone, ive just brought a set of kenny kong metal track for my sherman. But ive heard the the lower hull can distort, so does this actualy happen and will my metal tracks make it worse?? if it does what upgrades can i buy? its already got bearings in the suspension, also bearings to supports the drive shafts from the gearbox and also im in the prosess of making the mounting bracket for idler wheel larger. So am i doing all i can?? Hope someone can help! Cheers

Hello Bilbo,you might try a PM message to Bubbajoexx or Swathdiver as both these guy's have done a lot of work on Sherman tanks,also try the search function at top right hand side of home page.I recall a post about hull flexing but not sure which Tank? Blake

Hi There is a sumo mod for the gearboxes its a solid mounting that stops the gearboxes flexing ,it removes the standoffs and is a solid lump in there place.This is the only flexing that the shermans have on there hulls that I know of .

I bought the gearbox mount from ETO Armour - might be schumo, but I think its Darryls Parts? Either way its a solid chunk of metal that bolts straight thru the hull into the gearbox frames - they aren't going anywhere now

The other upgrade I would recommend is a new set of rear idlers. I have the Darrly's Parts set, but they are pricey @ $90 a set
The stock Tam ones look very weak in my opinion, at the very least you should get a bigger plate to mount the idlers to, and fit bigger screws.

Cheers everyone, i will have a look for the gearbox mount. Never knew these tanks could cost as much as a car!!! they look nice tho
