I was wondering if anyone would know the answer to this. In the attached picture how were the spare track links on the glacis, next to the MG and drivers vision port, most commonly attached? Did they have hooks? Or retaining bars? Or were they simply welded to the hull?

They always look to me like they have been welded, i'm probably wrong the method i use not being bothered about accuracy is shown on the pzr 3 in the photos made from brass sheet and minature hinges with a bit of reworking

Hi If you blow the photo up you can see a track pin on the righthand side which look like it has a mounting bracket welded to the hull on the right side ,so it looks like they have a mountings posibly similar to the turret mountings.

Fantastic design afv! They look amazing. Sadly, im anal about accuracy. I've been studying the few pictures I can find of a knocked out 506th Tiger 1 in the Ardennes, and the links look either held by hook, or welded on. There's no bars holding them on like some Tunisian Tigers had. Unfortunately the snow is covering the top of the links, so I can't see if they have hooks.

Interestingly, it shows a Tiger with the earlier style cupola, and what seems to be early roadwheels. It was Tiger 411, and was knocked ot 10 miles east of Bastogne.

I was looking at that as well, my eyesight is terrible though, lol. Good detail photos of the links attachment are hard to come by. I'm starting to like the ide of hooks though.

Most photos I've seen, they used wires to attach the spare track links.
Try "Tigers 1 on the Eastern Front"
