hi guys,

i thought to post this in announcements, however i thought that you might like to respond.

anyway, i'll cut to the chase.

as some of you may know, the domain for http://www.rctankwarfare.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; expired without me being warned by the host that it was going to do so (the domain was registered through him) when it was his duty to tell me. All i could do was get this .co.cc domain instead.

the old host should have now pay the $250 fee because it is his fault that it has gone expired. However he is shoving the blame onto everybody but himself so that he doesnt have to fork out $250.
well, enom (the people who deal with domains) put a charge of $250 on the domain to renew it now that it has expired

ive considered taking it up with court, however the costs would be more that what we would gain from it, even though i have enough evidence againt him to provee he's in the wrong.

so, we have a choice to make. raise $250 to get the domain so that i can have it transfered away from him to a private account, OR just get a new one OR even a switch to .co.uk which might be the best option (.co.uk is good scene as this was the uk made forum, now gone global).

what do you guys think ?

cheers,

Matt

I had already figured that much out, I looked at what was going on way back on WhoIs. :S

Take the .co.uk domain, you know it makes sense. The .com is worthless without the forum, and worth even less if we transfer to .co.uk, so let them make the expensive business mistake. 250 bucks is daylight robbery.

The forum is the forum, and it will remain so regardless of the domain name.

As you already know, as long as the new domain is registered in your name then you will get the reminders to renew it, and it always be ours. It won't be difficult to either link the new domain name to the forum, or to have the current one and the new one running in tandem until people get used to the new url, and then drop the current one. A simple bit of domain forwarding will sort it all.

As long as the hosting is reliable (which it appears to be) we will be on a solid footing for the future.

Onwards and upwards!

Hi Matt .co.uk is the best option if its a permanant site dont want to keep changing every year, but there may be another to think about ,that would be .org as we are a none profit it could be posible.either way can you give us plenty of notice ,so we dont end up losing members because they cant find us .Send E-mails to all members also notifie other forums Panzerketten/hobby havoc.

hi all,

thanks for your support - i too thought a .co.uk would be good, i just was hesitant due to dave (forgebears) efforts on the banner for the midlands branch :(

what i'd do is switch the forum over to .co.uk, and have the old .co.cc re-direct here but with a notice saying we have moved so that all members using .co.cc will know its changed :)

cheers all,

Matt
