Their is reference to a general order issued in June of 1940 that all Panzers were to be painted Dark Grey(DUNKELGRAU),then a date of Feb.1943 is given for the general order changing base coat to TAN(DUNKELGELB nach MUSTER).This applied to the TIGER VI but did this also apply to Panther and Jagdpanther? A better question would be were any Panthers or Jagdpanther painted Dark Grey(DUNKELGRAU)or(SCHWARZGRUA) or were all Panther and Jagdpanther base coat Tan(DUNKELGELB nach MUSTER). TIGER VI REFERENCE DATA- http://www.alanhamby.com/paint.shtml The first four Panther A's were produced in Jan.1943,by MAN,were these Grey? After this date when mass production began what color were the Panthers? Jagdpanther first two prototypes were completed in OCT,NOV.1943 and production began in Jan.1944 but I can find no reference to color? Any information concerning paint color will be helpful.Sax Jagdpanther and Panther reference site- http://panther1944.de/en/jgpz-jagdpanth ... -japa.html http://panther1944.de/en/sdkfz-171-pzkp ... story.html

Hi Sax,

I'm sure I've read somewhere that in the very late stages of the war German armoured vehicles reverted to the base colour of dunkel grau as that colour was better suited to urban combat and night fighting.

That is the information I am trying to verify, also information concerning units sent back to the factory for rebuild and how these units were handled,or what the process was for rebuilding or restoring units to fighting level of operation? Was their a special factory set up to handle tanks sent back from the front to be rebuilt or upgraded as the Units these tanks were attached to were in rest and refit area's? The search continues.Sax
