Darkith intermittent problem?

I have just built and installed a Darkith unit into an RX18 equipped T34. I have one in a RX14 Bulldog and it has always been flawless
For some odd reason there is an intermittent problem with the start-up.
Sometimes I can switch it on and it boots up perfectly, other times it won't?? When it is running everything works perfectly, as it should.
I have double checked all of the solder joints, run over it with a multimeter checking continuity, and ensured that the battery is fully charged.
I don't even touch the tank. Sometimes the start button starts the tank, other times nothing??
The power is ok to the RX18, I have a power on LED hooked up to show that it is live. The problem is with the signal getting from the HL receiver board, through the Darkith board, and to the RX18 when I press the start button.
Although I can check continuity on the + and gnd, I can't check the sig circuit as that goes through the IC chip, as I have no idea where the signals exit the chip.
I suspect the IC chip may have a cold joint in it somewhere, but has anyone else had this problem??
Cheers
