Hi all,

I've just been browsing the, 'Things to Fix on you new Tank' board, and noticed that there aren't any posts regarding the HL KV-1! Surely HL haven't produced the perfect tank have they?

So come on people, Let's see some fixes posted to help those of us thinking of buying one.

I bought a KV-1 recently and out of the box it really is an excellent bit of kit.

Scale and detailing are spot on and it feels built up to a standard rather than down to a price.

I have read that the idler mounts are weak and the suspension is too soft, but with standard running gear, this doesn't seem to be an issue.

My KV-1 arrived with front idler torn completely off the hull. Well, to be fair, it had 1 screw partially holding it on. The plastic is so soft, I cannot in good faith recommend this tank unless you plan on upgrading to the Asiatam hull. Thankfully I knew about this fault from numerous reports and waited until I could order everything at once. The lower hull never moved an inch.

Other than that, the KV-1 is a beautiful tank and a great offroad runner. The wide tracks keep it afloat in all terrains I've tested, but the length of them combined with the rear sprocket make for some wide turns. Really wide turns.

Out of the box fixes would be to clock the suspension, but obviously I didn't do that since the Asiatam hull was immediately installed. Everything from the fender up operates flawlessly and looks accurate. Very easy to move the anteena to the proper forward position for added accuracy.


She's a real beaut Clark.

And,I might add,has capture the typical Soviet look of "all boilerplate and big rivets" very well.
