Jagdpanther LWB !

After my last post on the Jagdpanther drive sprocket height I was still unsure as to why the model tends to look very long in the wheelbase, a real Jagd tends to look fairly short in this respect, it would seem that Heng Long got it slightly wrong, the drive sprocket is not only too low but also much too far forward, even with weight on the suspension the relationship between the drive sprocket and first roadwheel is wrong. I suspect the idler wheels at the rear may also be the same. This I supose would be a right pain to put right, hours of cutting, filling and sanding . . . . wonder if my bank balance will stand a Jagd hull from Forgebear . . . . . ?? :D

Hi somthing to think about is any real tank that is out there will be sitting a bit lower (60years having all that weight sat on them)than what it was when made, this will make the wheels on one side look nearer and on the other side further from the sprocket, the only way to make sure they are in the correct posion is to have a set of original drawings to work from.

Realise what your saying Pete but even with road wheel fully compressed its nowhere near the drive sprocket . :D

Are the sprockets/wheels to scale? I know the HL Tiger wheels are smaller then they should be.

What about the Tamiya lower hull? Xrad's build using the Tamiya lower hull could be used to answer this question. Blake

Hi Here are drawings of the Tiger wheels and suspension,I cant find them for the Panther or Jagdpanther but this is what you need to check that yours are correct.

Don't forget that the torsion arms are opposite direction on each side and one set of T-rods sit behind the other. Therefore, one set of road wheels IS slightly more posterior than the other in relationship to the drive wheel AND slightly assymetric in relation to the idler also.

I checked original hull pics in my JP book. The Tammy hull and wheel set-up is VERY close to original.
