My M-113 at 95% Finished

I'm just about finished with my M-113 now, (and finishing a model always makes me a little bit sad). And for a minute I even considered making this model amphibious, like the real vehicle was...but decided it wasn't worth the risk of destroying the electronic parts just to do it.
But I still have a recoil-less rifle to install on it at some point, and a few minor touch-ups to correct the flaws - but overall I'm quite happy with how this A.P.C. turned out.

I may have obsessed too much over a few details, like the tow cables shown in this rear-view...the finish on the cables isn't quite right. But I rejected several other scale cables before I found ones of the correct length and flexible enough to lay as flat as the real ones did.

The worn finish is the best thing I achieved on this model, and even then the results were almost random. I always found weathering a single-color tank is a real challenge, especially one as dark as US Army olive drab. Fortunately there are a large variety of paint shades available for O.D., including several shades of pre-faded paint - even so It took me several painting sessions to achieve the faded and worn finish I was after. I used only acrylic paints, except for the pin-wash, and it's a good thing acrylic paints go on thin because I'd never have gotten these results with enamels (that used to be the only type of model paint you could get),

Since my particular M-113 version didn't come with it, I used the gun shield from the 1/15 scale Verlinden M-113 accessory kit. But by the time I received it, the extra parts tree (with gun shields, two M-60 machine guns, and several other useful parts) was already available separately on Motion RC!
