People said go to Oban

Every body had been telling me about a mysterious place called Oban, where apparently I started Herr Dr Professor on a downward spiral of drunken debauchery. Which concluded in him wandering around the mean street of Glasgow (Well Hope Street) causing all sorts of mayhem. So Mrs Rat and myself paid a visit.
A Distillery was found.

A large bottle of Whisky was found. But not from said Distillery.

This visit caused a small disagreement between myself and Mrs Rat, as apparently buying a bottle of 1964 Glanfarclas, is not a good way to spend part of my retirement savings.
I had to settle for this instead.

We then went to watch a band.

Afterwards, some more ale was consumed. Where upon we returned to the hotel, about 00:15, expecting to be able to purchase a night cap, only to find the bar shut. No haggis was harmed or consumed in the making of this night out.

You bought an Orkney whisky in Oban? You'll have to go there next for the Oban whisky! :) I can recommend the cake at Duart Castle if you're heading onto Mull.

Need to go back sometime.

Ahhhhh, the Glanfarclas '64...liked it so much I bought two. One for sipping, and one to mix with ginger ale...

Looks like a nice night out. Was breakfast a cure the next morning?

Mike.

The Oban Distillery tour is a must on any trip to Scotland. It is amazing that I can still remember the tour. :haha:

Well it looks like you had a nice time there.

Back when I would still partake, Oban became a favorite.

Is that the place with the Roman coliseum style folly? Looks like somebody cut the bars and broke in through the ground floor window at the Oban Distillery.

Been there, done the tour, collected the sample glasses. Highly recommended. The town is quite nice too, with a cute little mall.

Coleman Collector - I am surprised some Scot has not given you a talking to. In my experience they get very expressive when you mix it with anything - mixers, water, ice even.

Already have an Oban whisky. And I haven’t tried that whisky from Orkney. Not a lover of cake, but thank you for the suggestion.

Breakfast hit the spot.
Should have bought three. One to keep, one to share, and one to mix. Ginger Ale? Should be Irn Bru.

Once you’ve done one distillery, you’ve done them all.

Yes. Built 1897, by the banker by John Stuart McCraig to give the local stone masons work in a recession.

CC must have looked up the price, and is gently taking the preverbal. I hope. :D

But! A client asked for a whisky and coke. The barman replied,”this sir, is £300 a measure, and is the best whisky in the world.” The client replied. “In that case, it will be the best whisky and coke in the world.”
