Tale of two Cats (Tamiya Panthers 1/35 and 1/25)

Post by Panzerman »

This is the tale of two Tamiya RC Panthers the fairly resent 1/35th & the older 1/25th.
Never one to make things easy for myself I decided to swap the RC arrangement around.
The 1/35th G model comes with a small 4 channel set up, the 1/25th A only two channel.
I put the gear for the 1/35th in the 1/25th only real tricky bit lining up the turret turning
thingamajig! Few pics of the builds as follows.

The scale comparison is interesting.

This is the turret turner in place on the 1/25th scale hull. Tricky bit lining the turret ring up with the turning unit.

Some may notice I used a early model chinless model mantlet on the G model.
Panzerman was Pantherman for these builds!

A couple of excellent Panthers there. Its definitely one of my favourite tanks, and you've done them proud. I cant wait to see more of your work.
Do you plan on moving up to 1/16th Tamiyas?
Cheers,

Thank you, Yep, have a 1/16th Panther G up next, I've got a few figures I want to get finished first.

Found some more pics of Panther A.

A very nice pair of panthers you have there. Can I ask you, what do they run like ? I fancied building one to use around the living room floor. Are the tracks prone to snapping and do you know if you could get spares for them ?
Cheers

Hey Steiner,

Yep perfect for that type of thing, the 1/35th has rubberband tracks, I have an
after market link set which I will keep in reserve in case the rubber bands give up.
Not sure if the link set will be too heavy for the gearboxes, will have to see.

The 1/25th has hard plastic tracks, I treat all my tanks pretty carefully so these two
will be inside runners or perhaps on the grass on a sunny day. Spares I guess from Tamiya.

They are both quite slow which I like, they only have 4 X 1.5 volt batteries, they don't go
real well on the steeps, I would never call them toys but perhaps toy like as far as their
performance is concerned. No where near as capable as the 1/16th Tamiya tanks.

I also have the Academy Jagdpanther which, if you can find one, are much cheaper.
They are electric also but only free runners, it wouldn't be too hard to convert one to RC.

Tamiya have released a 1/25th scale late model Chieftain, too modern for me, WW II I am!

Hi there,
know this is an old post but very glad to see some 1/35 and the harder to find 1/25 (which is a really nice size imo)
BC: I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?
