I'm working on the City Class Ironclad from the Civil War - USS DeKalb. It is 1/35 scale with fully working gear. How to have it working next spring. I'll post images as I go.

Welcome aboard GremlinX. How long will that Inronclad be in 35th? Look forward to some pictures when you get a chance. And before someone else comes along and minimizes your introduction... What other hobbies are you into and from what part of the world do you hail from? Sometimes it is easier for us to answer if "where to get" questions get asked.

I'm from Northern Illinois. NO! Not Chicago.

I'm making this as real as I can get it. Paddle wheel will power the ship. My son does 3D printing so he is making many of the "fitting out" parts. This is all stick built, using Poplar wood to start and also using basswood. Trying to stay away from fiberglass.

The paddle wheel and engines will be the tough part. That and getting the waterline correct. Not a lot of weight but enough so it sits correct. I have lead strips I may have to add later.

I like Civil War History and military ... Once done I plan to use for presentations at schools and local museum.

I'm also into American Motors history and cars.

Hello and welcome from Argyll and Bute. Rather strange joining a forum predominately about military vehicles to inform us you are building a boat. Do you have any tanks, or other military vehicles?

Looked it up and if I found the correct ship. 175' in length should equate to 5 foot in 35th scale, no?

Mine is 1/48 scale and I think it’s a bit over 3 feet stem to stern.

Am working with 60 inches X 17 inches 1/35th scale.

BUT.... working with the material and space I have, I may have to go with 1/43. I see they sell figures for this scale. So I should be able to find some general parts to fit that size. Thta would get me to 50 X 15 about.
