An Ugly Duckling Is Born
Hi all,
Though not having the svelte look of her sister, the Panzer IV/70 (V), this Panzer IV/70(A) is still my favorite German tank hunter. And, who there are no marriages made in heaven. The model is the mating of a rather sparse 3D printed upper structure with a Heng Long Panzer IV lower chassis and deck. Everything else is either from the Teilbehalter, after market detail parts, made from scratch or kit-bashed from a Trumpeter Panzer IV, sadly released well after starting on the HL chassis and well into the build. So, here is the current state of play...finished except for some work still to be done to the exhaust. To that end, I'm still trying to summon the courage to use a new product I saw used to great effect, AK's 'Rust Effect.' From what I saw, it actually is creates a believable paint oxidation effect.
Thanks for looking...

I have long wanted a Panzer IV/70, but the Tamiya kit is frighteningly expensive when it is even to be located. You have done a superb job of creating the tank, with impressive detail, even down to the casting numbers.

Thanks for the kind comments, gents.I continue to wonder why, with the all the major players in the injection molded model scene, we see endless repeats of the same tanks, albeit with small variations and details, but not others. Why no Stug IV? Which brings me to my next Franenstein, a Stug IV marrying the Das Werk Stug III with the Trumpeter Panzer IVJ. If you want to see one beautiful piece of modeling art, take a look at what one innovative chap did to make one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvNxZW3axHo&t=1021s.

Hey Ralph!
First, congrats on the assault gun, marvelous job, well done.
About the link you posted….
Perfect a Sturmgeschütz IV, indeed a very rare model.
But to create this build, you need a StuG III an Panzer IV model kit.
Both kits might be beauties of their own, maybe builders are not into that, adding these nice kits together?
There will be lots of parts left from both models….hmm….
But once more, a perfect StuG IV especially with that disc camo!
Thanks for showing.

Why no Stug IV? Which brings me to my next Frankenstein, a Stug IV which marries the Das Werk Stug III fighting compartment with the Trumpeter Panzer IVJ lower hull and chassis. If you want to see one beautiful piece of modeling art, take a look at what one innovative chap did to make one just that way. I unashamedly try to copy him (as far as the externals go). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvNxZW3axHo&t=1021s.
