So had my tank a few weeks. Was reading about the IRvsystem it has for tank to tank battling. The instructions refer to red targeting light? Not sure what this is as can’t see any red lights etc.

Help and advise welcome.

The red targeting light is an add on laser that is not included with the kit. Some of us use it for other things like powering a spotlight or other lights.

Is it required to use the IR tank battle mode?

No, it serves a dual purpose: aesthetic (I can see where I’m aiming, although the Airsoft gun is not nearly accurate or precise enough to hit where the light is at) and also safety (hey, I’m about to shoot an Airsoft pellet warning light).

The IR emitter is a separate LED bulb with its own port on the TK7.x to plug into.

“The IR emitter is a separate LED bulb with its own port on the TK7.x to plug into.“

Is that the magnetic part that came with the kit. Plugs into the hatch. ?

There are two parts to the IR Battlesystem. There is the IR transmitter (IR LED) and the IR receiver (looks like a mushroom on the newer HL tanks) that plugs in on the top of the tank with the magnet on the bottom.

The battlesystem is based on the Tamiya protocol as long as you are using a Heng Long 6.x or 7.x system. Any HL system older than that uses a different proprietary HL protocol.

The Taigen/Torro tanks (V1, V2, and V3) also use a different battle system, but there is a Torro converter that can be bought that makes them able to battle on the Tamiya protocol.

Okay. Great. I have a HLv.7 system. And I have the magnetic IR piece. So is that both the receiver and transmitter for the battle system?

Thanks

The IR LED should be mounted in the tank somewhere. Usually it's in the mantlet. When you fire the gun it will pulse, but since it's infrared you won't see it pulse. If you point your phone camera at the front of the tank and fire, your phone will pick-up the purple pulse.
