O’l Ugly Without Side Bins

Popped the side bins off and considered modeling a different tank from the 502nd in fall of ‘42. I can do no bins at all or I have a Panzer III bin I could use. I’m kinda leaning towards no bins at all for a true Initial Production Tiger. I may use magnets and be able to switch bin arrangements.

Just wanted to show how my commander’s head turns with the tank turning, the turret turning or independently with a slider switch. Just fun short video.

Well that certainly is "head turning"

never knew the bins were removable/movable.
The commander is too cool and beyond my skill level.

Your Tiger build is a classic. If I had built that I’d be so scared to re-do it but I know the urge as I’ve rebuilt some of my much crappier builds

Even I quite like this. Prefer it with the side bins. You definitely need to do one with a panzer whatever bin on the back.

Hi Jimster. Will be joining the Initial tiger ranks soon. About half way through building Tiger 121.The inspiration for the build has come from your build. Wil post my build in about three weeks. PS. If you look at recent General discussion you will see I did a post [Tiger 1 deck grills and small tow cables] Find and have a look at the photos I have mentioned. You can see from the photos, initial tigers had grills, Tiger 100 being one of them. Up to you but you could put grills back on if you want to .I think they look great when installed. Regards John.

Glad to know you’re modeling an initial production. They’re rare as hen’s teeth in 1/16 scale.
I did keep the mesh grill covers in my parts pile but during my “research” I read that they were added very shortly after first combat encounters. So I removed them just because I saw one photo of one without them. I might need smaller tow cables I guess.
Glad I helped inspire you! Can’t wait for the photos of your progress.

When I was building my Ini-Tiger 1 #100, I did quite some research too.
I did read somewhere, the very first ones did not have the grills!
So I build mine without them.
BTW John, did you made that weldseam in the middle of the upper hull, going from front to rear?
Those very first ones did not have an upper hull out of one piece, so there was a weld seam in the middle.
A nice touch to the model in my opinion.
