Hi everyone, I’m Harvey I’m from Yateley, Hampshire uk I’m about to buy my first rc tank but have recently started back into model making and would like to get an rc tank

Oh, we just love giving advice to those choosing a first tank. If you have any inclination as to which tank, what scale, or brand, let us know. You have great choices there in the UK (not so many here in the U.S.). Then, too, if you can give us some idea of the amount of modeling you have done, we can help you make choices suited to your experience and stretching it a bit. (Mine is stretching all the time just to achieve medocre.)

Thanks , I’ve returned to models after a 40 year break although I did make some rc gliders a while ago, I’m currently looking at heng long 1/16 scale as I’m assuming the larger scale will be mega expensive but I’m happy to be proved wrong re actual models I’m liking challenger, Tiger, leopard

Welcome Ruffdog from New York, not to be confused with Old York. H'mmm decisions, decisions. I'd say go where your heart takes ya when choosing your first. It'll be a good decider if you get a tank you're fond of just how crazy far you may go. Cuz when the tank bug bites ya the addiction comes on strong.

Of course, MrChef is quite right: "go where your heart takes ya." Among the Challenger, Tiger, and Leopard you have one WWII tank, the Tiger, probably the most popular RC tank. There are ooh goo gobs of aftermarket goodies for the Tiger for once one heads down the rabbit hole of, unh, making it ones own. The Tiger comes from HengLong with a great control board. But the Tiger is also available from Torro (also known as Taigen) with somewhat dated (2017) but by no means inadequate electronic controls. My first choice among the Tigers for a first RC tank would be either the top-of-the line upgraded HengLong or the top-of-the line Torro/Taigen. These are more expensive initially, but much less expensive than upgrading later.

The Challenger and Leopard are great choices among modern Main Battle Tanks. The HengLong versions, especially with the newest electronics (7.1) are as good as it gets for speed control, turning, and other features. Again, I would shell out for the top-of-the line HengLong with 7.1 electronics, barrel recoil and flash, the works. Buying one (or both ) of these initially beats upgrading later and gives you a sense of how much fun RC tanks can be.

As for sellers, there are lots. But if I were in the U.K. I would head first to Forgebear: https://www.forgebeartanks.com/store/c1 ... ducts.html. My close second choice would be Haya: https://www.hayaltd.co.uk/ I have had good experience with both (as well as two German sellers, a U.S. seller, an Asian seller with some U.S. inventory, and one Asian seller).
