LEST WE FORGET............110 YEARS ON

Today we mark 110 years since Australian & New Zealand Soldiers landed at Gallipoli in Turkey to face the forces of the Ottoman Empire.
Young nations, new nations, still seeking national identity and soul.................
This day, that morning, they found it all..................
The Spirit and Legend of ANZAC was founded, and it remains strong today.
I am proud & humble to share the Great Nation of Australia with all of Australia's citizens and am of course indelibly connected by birth & upbringing to little New Zealand but always have a spot for this poem about the Australian Flag & it resounds for my flag too :
"Our flag bears the stars that blaze at night
In our Southern sky of blue
And that little flag in the corner
Thats part of our heritage too
Its for the English, The Scots and the Irish
Who were sent to the end of the earth
The rouges and the schemers, the doers and the dreamers
Who gave modern Australia its birth
Γnd you who are shouting to change it
You dont seem to understand
Its the flag of our laws and our language
Not the flag of a far away land
There are lots of people who will tell you
How when Europe was plunged into night
That little old flag in the corner
Was the symbol of freedom and light
It doesent mean we owe our allegiance
To a forgotten imperial dream
We've the stars to show where we're going
And the old flag to show where we've been
Its only an old piece of bunting
Its only an old coloured rag
But there's thousands who died for its honour
And shed their best blood for our flag "
To those that have served their country and those that still do
Wherever you may be
From my family to yours , Thank You For Your Service
