My set up is a 1/8 scale tank with a OpenPanzer TCB, DasMikro, and a 20w 4 ohm speaker.

With the DasMikro rated for 3w at 4 ohm, I tried to get an external amp for the DasMikro. Unfortunately since Benedini stopped selling, I was left to my own devices and went with this 100w at 2 ohm, 24v mono amp:

I can’t get any sound out of this, just a big click sound every now and then. If I plug a 10w 4 ohm or 15w 8 ohm speaker into it I get sound fine, just not as loud as I want for a 1/8 scale tank.

Does anyone have any idea what I’m doing wrong? I ordered a couple other cheaper amps to try, does anyone know of any amps that can still be purchased today that definitely work with the DasMikro? Most of the links I found in here were old and no longer worked.

So not really a solution, but I tried plugging my 20w 4 ohm speaker directly into the DasMikro without an amp, and it is pretty loud and sounds good. This was after trying another amp, this time off of Amazon, and it didn’t work either.

Would still like to find an amp that works though, just so I could really push the boundaries of good taste with the volume level.

So I have found out by process of elimination that my amp DOES work with the DasMikro, it just doesn’t like being powered from the same source as the DasMikro.

In my set up I have a 36v battery, it goes through a converter to 24v. Here I had a 24v lead going to the amp, which is rated for 24v, and another going to a 24v to 12v converter. The 12v goes to an OpenPanzer TCB, which then converts it to 5V for the DasMikro.

If I power the amp separately with a 3s LiPo, the amp works as expected.

If I try to run a 24v or 12v line from the main battery, the amp does not work.

Any ideas of what I can try here? Having a separate battery for the amp is going to be a huge pain in the butt. Is this why the instructions say you may need an audio isolator, for ground loops? I though that would be for cleaning up erroneous noise coming from the speaker.
