Torro‘s SdKfz-251

Hi guys.
After having finished my Fallschirmjäger project on the Tiger 1, I made a try with the Halbkette.
I choosed the grey version, and yes, I am aware it is not period correct in this color, but I really do not care about it!
So I‘d rather not start a discussion about this.
The Halbkette just needs to fit into my Ostfront Company, together with my Tigers, Panzer III, the Kübel, Schwimmwagen and the BMW motorcycle.

It is nothing fancy I did until now.
Only weathered it with real sand and the scratches were made with Ammo Aluminum matt.

The Torro decals……well what should I say……
As usual I started with a coat of high gloss clear at the spots the decals should go.
Next using Micro set and Micro soll with the decals and in the end a layer of clear varnish matt.
But somehow it did not really came out the way I expected it to be.
The enamel matt did not make the enamel gloss disappear very well, so I was a bit p*ssed off about that!
Anonther issue, as I made it an SS vehicle, due to German regulations these are forbidden signs.
So they make these signs out of 2 parts.
You must ad the lower parts of those S onto the license plate decals seperately.
So you put on the license plates first, let them dry and next you put the lower part of 1 S on first.
When dried, you finish the 2nd S with the other lower.
It worked pretty good for me, besides that the decals are slightly pink.
So by adding the lower S parts onto the white license plates, the pink still shines through.
I fixed it with weathering.

Last night I took a couple of pics as the vehicle sits now.
Later last night I made a few changes again.
Painted the tools and benches, the exhaust and I used 2 needles for those things on each front fender, because the ones from Torro did break while I made an attempt to put some slack into the tracks. But they were too thick anyway.
No clue how you guys call these….
Must finetune it a bit more and make new pics of the entire vehicle.

As crew I have those 6 men from SOL/Ali, 2 gunners, 1 officer and 3 soldiers jumping out of the vehicle.
Besides that set, I also have 3 more standing figures to go with it.
But the officer and front gunner need some surgerey to make them fit the vehicle.
So I am still figuring out what is the best way to make them fit.
With both gunners came 2 MG‘s which replace the stock Torro ones too.

Here are a few pics, more to follow later today.
Rob.

Yes, Toro decals are terrible, they fall apart when wet. Either way, your vehicle came out great.

PS. Another thing is that Torro offers them in a grey and desert version, even though there were none of that colors (all Ausf D.s were already coming out of factories in Dunkelgelb) But of course we can turn a blind eye to this because the long-awaited 251 RC has finally been released. ;)

I got mine in the desert version just so I could paint it with whatever scheme I wanted without having to sand down their camo job.

This afternoon I added some color onto the exhaust, the benches and stuck 2 needles in the front fenders as a replacement for the stock Torro parts which were a bit out of scale anyway.

This is the weathering so far.
Next I will focus on the 6 soldiers, and in the end I can check if there needs more weathering to be done.
So this is it for now.

Very nice Rob. When you add your always great figures it will look great. If I get one next winter I'll be doing a grey one too

Fantastic Rob. Love how you created the ingrained mud effects with the front tyres. Looks like the real thing.
